The effect of Spirulina supplementation in ewes? oxidative status and milk quality

C. Christodoulou et al.

Summary: The addition of spirulina to ewes' diet improved the oxidative status of their organism and milk, as indicated by increased activities of antioxidant enzymes and decreased protein carbonyls content. The highest level of spirulina supplementation (15g/day) showed the most significant improvement.

Performance, milk fatty acid profile and oxidative status of lactating small ruminants supplemented with microalgae: A meta-analysis

Jose Felipe Orzuna-Orzuna et al.

Summary: Microalgae supplementation can improve milk production, fatty acid profile, and oxidative status in lactating small ruminants, according to a meta-analysis of 20 scientific articles. The inclusion of microalgae in the diet resulted in higher dry matter intake and milk yield, as well as increased levels of beneficial fatty acids in milk. Additionally, microalgae supplementation improved antioxidant enzyme concentrations in blood plasma and milk. Overall, microalgae could be a valuable nutritional strategy for enhancing the performance and quality of milk in small ruminants.

Chemopreventive effect of a milk whey by-product derived from Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in protecting from colorectal carcinogenesis

Nunzio Antonio Cacciola et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that delactosed buffalo milk whey by-product (DMW) has chemopreventive effects on colorectal cancer, restores gut microbiota, and exerts cytotoxic effects on colorectal cancer cells. Therefore, DMW could be an important dietary supplement to support a healthy gut microbiota and reduce the prevalence of colorectal cancer in humans.

Protective effect of amino acids on the stability of bayberry anthocyanins and the interaction mechanism between L-methionine and cyanidin-3-O-glycoside

Ming Nie et al.

Summary: The protective effects of L-methionine on the stability of bayberry anthocyanins were investigated. Results showed that L-methionine significantly reduced the degradation rate of anthocyanins and could be used as a co-pigment to improve the sensory property and extend the shelf life of anthocyanin-rich berry products.

Buffalo Milk Whey Activates Necroptosis and Apoptosis in a Xenograft Model of Colorectal Cancer

Nunzio Antonio Cacciola et al.

Summary: Pharmacological research on milk whey has shown its potential therapeutic properties in modern medicine. This study focused on whey from Mediterranean buffalo milk and investigated its anticancer effects on colorectal cancer. The results revealed that whey was able to regulate protein expression in apoptotic and necroptotic pathways to inhibit tumor growth. The findings suggest that whey could be a valuable source of biomolecules for the treatment of colorectal cancer.

The Use of Draught Animals in Rural Labour

Daniel Mota-Rojas et al.

Summary: Although mechanization has reduced the demand for animal labor in agriculture, draught animals remain crucial for many families in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. These animals play an important role in various agricultural tasks and transportation. While they offer sustainability benefits compared to agricultural machinery, attention is needed for the quality of human-animal interactions and the welfare of the animals during transportation and slaughter.
