Efficient synthesis of chromeno[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives using Zn (OTf)2 as a catalyst: DFT computations, molecular docking and ADME studies

Goncagul Serdaroglu et al.

Summary: An efficient method using Zn (OTf)2 was developed for the synthesis of chromeno[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives via one-pot [3 + 3] cascade annulation methods. The reaction involved 2-amino-4H-chromen-4-one and trans-chalcone with different substituted groups. This approach offers the pharmacological importance of 2-amino-4H-chromen-4-one derivatives in terms of reaction time and good yields, and provides a new perspective on intramolecular cyclization pathway.

Cyclic iron tetra N-heterocyclic carbenes: synthesis, properties, reactivity, and catalysis

Tim P. P. Schlachta et al.

Summary: Cyclic iron tetracarbenes are a class of macrocyclic iron N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes, inspired by heme analogs but with different electronic properties. The modification of their ligand framework allows control over the structural and electronic properties of the complexes. These iron tetracarbene complexes exhibit unique reactivity, involving the isolation of uncommon iron(iii) and iron(iv) species. They have been successfully applied in various catalytic reactions, such as C-H activation, CO2 reduction, aziridination, and epoxidation. This review provides insights for researchers to evaluate the properties of their complexes and optimize catalyst properties through ligand design.

Antibacterial silver and gold complexes of imidazole and 1,2,4-triazole derived N-heterocyclic carbenes

Joel C. Mather et al.

Summary: A series of gold(I) and silver(I) complexes were synthesized and their antibacterial activities were tested. The gold(I) complexes showed good activity against Gram-positive bacteria, with the complexes of the 1,2,4-triazolylidene ligands being more active. The silver(I) complexes exhibited good antibacterial activity against Acinetobacter baumannii. High levels of antibacterial activity were observed against multi-drug resistant bacterial strains for both the gold(I) and silver(I) complexes. Resistance to these metal-containing complexes was less likely to develop compared to the widely used broad-spectrum antibiotic. Furthermore, the stability of these complexes was investigated, revealing possible decomposition reactions for silver complexes in aqueous solution.

Marzieh Miar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of electron-releasing and electron-withdrawing groups at para positions on the molecular structure of synthesized compounds in selected solvents and in the gas phase. Results show that intramolecular interactions between substituents and the electron donor-acceptor centers of the thiazole ring influence the relative stability of the compounds. Charge-transfer possibilities within the molecules are revealed through dipole moment values and energy gaps between occupied and unoccupied molecular orbitals.

Summary: The newly synthesized palladium(II) complex exhibits significant anti-tumor activity and interacts with CT-DNA and BSA through hydrophobic interactions with CT-DNA, and hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces with BSA. Additionally, partition coefficient determination shows that [Pd(phen)(acac)]NO3 complex is more lipophilic than cisplatin. Molecular docking simulation confirms experimental results and suggests the complex binds to the intercalation site of DNA and Sudlow's site I of BSA.

Molecular interactions of cefoperazone with bovine serum albumin: Extensive experimental and computational investigations

Mohd Sajid Ali et al.

Summary: The study investigated the binding of the cephalosporin-class drug cefoperazone with bovine serum albumin using spectroscopic techniques and in silico methods. The importance of correcting for the inner filter effect in this type of study was emphasized, and the binding mechanism was found to involve hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic forces with almost 1:1 static binding between BSA and CFP. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation suggested the presence of a putative binding site between BSA domains 1 and 3, which could be a target for future research related to BSA-drug binding.
