Activity of chitin/chitosan/chitosan oligosaccharide against plant pathogenic nematodes and potential modes of application in agriculture: A review

Zhaoqian Fan et al.

Summary: Chemical nematicides have been widely used for controlling plant-parasitic nematodes, but their negative impacts on the environment and ecosystem have prompted the search for alternatives. Chitin oligo/polysaccharide (COPS) has unique biological properties that can suppress nematode growth through ammonia production, promotion of antagonistic bacteria, and enhanced crop tolerance. COPS also serves as an effective sustained-release carrier for nematicidal substances. This review summarizes the advancements of COPS research in nematode control and discusses its potential agricultural applications.
