The influence of motivation on learning engagement: the mediating role of learning self-efficacy and self-monitoring in online learning environments

Lekissa Alemayehu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of motivation, learning self-efficacy, and self-monitoring on learning engagement in online learning environments for higher education students. The results show that motivation has a positive relationship with learning self-efficacy, self-monitoring, and learning engagement. The study suggests that motivation directly influences learning engagement and indirectly influences it through learning self-efficacy and self-monitoring. However, the direct influence of motivation on learning engagement is not strong. Learning self-efficacy also directly affects self-monitoring and learning engagement. The findings indicate that learning self-efficacy and self-monitoring partially mediate the influence of motivation on learning engagement in online learning environments. Finally, a model with four variables (motivation, self-efficacy, self-monitoring, and learning engagement) explains 76-78% of the variance in learning engagement.

Fear from COVID-19 and technology adoption: the impact of Google Meet during Coronavirus pandemic

Rana Saeed Al-Maroof et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of fear emotion on the adoption of Google Meet by students and teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings demonstrate that fear, specifically related to family lockdown, education failure, and loss of social relationships, has a significant effect on the adoption of this educational platform. The study also compares different data analysis techniques and finds that the J48 classifier is the most effective in predicting the dependent variable in most cases.

Understanding teachers' job satisfaction and flow: the dual process of psychological needs

Sungok Serena Shim et al.

Summary: Based on self-determination theory, this study explored the relationship between teachers' satisfaction or frustration of psychological needs and their job satisfaction, intention to leave, and flow experience during teaching. The results showed that need satisfaction was a stronger predictor of positive outcomes, while need frustration was a stronger predictor of negative outcomes. Job satisfaction was influenced by three psychological needs, while intention to leave was primarily related to the need for autonomy, and flow experience was mainly a function of the need for competence.

Student perceptions of online active learning practices and online learning climate predict online course engagement

Andrew W. Cole et al.

Summary: Student engagement in online courses may be more ambiguous and complex than in face-to-face settings.
