Effect of individualised nutritional intervention on the postpartum nutritional status of patients with gestational diabetes mellitus and the growth and development of their offspring: a quasi-experimental study

Jie Tan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of individualised nutritional intervention on the postpartum nutritional status of patients with gestational diabetes mellitus and the growth and development of their offspring. The results showed that individualised nutritional intervention could improve blood glucose levels 42 days after childbirth and reduce the incidence of macrosomia in their offspring.

Associations between Stunting, Wasting and Body Composition: A Longitudinal Study in 6-to 15-Month-Old Kenyan Children

Silvenus O. Konyole et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between undernutrition and body composition in young Kenyan children. The findings suggest that low length-for-age and weight-for-length z-scores are associated with decreased lean tissue, while fat mass index is not related to stunting. This study highlights the importance of early growth in determining future health.

Explaining the Link Between Paternal Socioeconomic Position and Small for Gestational Age Birth: The Effect of Maternal Unhealthy Behaviors

Shayna D. Hibbs et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the proportion of small for gestational age (SGA) births among fathers with lifelong low socioeconomic position (SEP) attributable to unhealthy pregnancy-related behaviors of white and African-American women. The results show that maternal unhealthy pregnancy behaviors account for a substantial portion of the disparity in SGA rates between infants of low and high SEP fathers in both races. These behaviors include cigarette smoking, inadequate prenatal care, and low pregnancy weight gain.

Establishment of a nomogram model to predict the risk of macrosomia in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus

Pengyu Sun et al.

Summary: A nomogram model was established to predict the risk of macrosomia in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Independent risk factors for macrosomia were identified through regression analysis. The model showed high clinical application value with AUC values of 0.93 and 0.90 in the training and test set, respectively.

Summary: The study found that maternal GDM status was associated with infant WFLZ, especially in early infancy or in normal-weight and overweight/obese women. Efforts to prevent GDM in these mothers are recommended to control offspring overweight or obesity.

Breastfeeding Practices Influence the Breast Milk Microbiota Depending on Pre-Gestational Maternal BMI and Weight Gain over Pregnancy

Erika Cortes-Macias et al.

Summary: Breastfeeding plays a crucial role in neonatal microbial and immune system development, with pre-pregnancy BMI and weight gain during pregnancy affecting milk microbiota composition. Normal-weight women with exclusive breastfeeding habits showed higher abundance of Bifidobacterium genus and alpha-diversity in breast milk. Further research is needed to understand the potential impact of maternal factors on milk and infant development and health.
