The Pathogenicity and Synergistic Action of Th1 and Th17 Cells in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Hui Cao et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, are characterized by chronic idiopathic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The pathogenesis of IBD is largely unknown, but it is believed that intestinal immune dysfunction plays a key role. Th1 and Th17 cells, which are essential for maintaining intestinal homeostasis, become pathogenic during the development of IBD and contribute to the inflammation and damage of the intestinal mucosa. Th1 cells impair intestinal epithelial cell function, while pathogenic Th17 cells induce injury and cell death. The synergistic action of Th1 and pathogenic Th17 cells exacerbates mucosal inflammation in IBD.

Escherichia coli Mimetic Gold Nanorod-Mediated Photo- and Immunotherapy for Treating Cancer and Its Metastasis

Juyoung Hwang et al.

Summary: In this study, Escherichia coli-mimetic nanomaterials named E. coli mimetic AuNRs (ECA) were synthesized for combination therapy against cancer and its recurrence. ECA treatment with laser irradiation showed a photothermal effect in eliminating tumors and inducing immune cell activation. The preventive effect of ECA against tumor growth in the lung metastatic form was aided by cancer antigen-specific T cell immunity.

Human Microbiota Flagellins Drive Adaptive Immune Responses in Crohn's Disease

Katie L. Alexander et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that patients with Crohn's disease have strong adaptive immune responses to human-derived Lachnospiraceae flagellins, with elevated serum IgG levels and specific T cell responses associated with disease complications. These findings suggest that targeting these specific flagellins may hold promise for prognosis and personalized therapies in the future.

Dendritic cell migration in inflammation and immunity

Juan Liu et al.

Summary: Dendritic cells play crucial roles in immune defense and tolerance, but dysregulation of their migration can lead to immune imbalance and diseases. Researchers are exploring new strategies targeting the migration of distinct dendritic cell subsets for the treatment of related diseases.
