Summary: This paper investigates the calculation of the supersymmetric index, focusing on charged black holes in four-dimensional N = 2 ungauged supergravity. Through the introduction of fermionic zero-mode fluctuations, it is shown that only one saddle contributes to the index calculation, while all other saddles have a contribution of zero. Furthermore, the presence of spacetime wormholes is shown to result in vanishing contributions. These findings address the factorization puzzle and provide a resolution for the supersymmetric index.

Summary: We review recent developments in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, a simple solvable model of quantum gravity in two dimensions. It has been proven to be a fruitful toy model to analyze important questions such as the relation between black holes and chaos, the role of wormholes in black hole physics and holography, and the recovery of information that falls into a black hole.

Summary: This paper computes the partition function of near-BPS black holes in supergravity and shows that the gravitational path integral can be reduced to that of a N = 4 supersymmetric extension of the Schwarzian theory. The results indicate that black holes in supergravity have a mass gap and a large extremal black hole degeneracy consistent with the Bekenstein-Hawking area.

Summary: In this paper, we analyze the deformations of N = 1 Jackiw-Teitelboim supergravity by adding a gas of defects and compute the partition function using a topological expansion. We find that it matches the perturbative expansion of a random matrix model, providing a non-perturbative completion of the N = 1 dilaton-supergravity theories. We also show that the negative spectral density problem can be resolved using the matrix model description through a phase transition.

Summary: Recent work has shown how to obtain the Page curve of an evaporating black hole through holographic computations of entanglement entropy. The validity of these computations is justified using the replica trick and geometries with a spacetime wormhole connecting the different replicas. The Page transition is studied in detail in a simple model by summing replica geometries with different topologies. Related quantities are computed in less detail in more complicated models like JT gravity coupled to conformal matter and the SYK model. Additionally, a direct gravitational argument for entanglement wedge reconstruction is given using the explicit formula known as the Petz map, where the spacetime wormhole plays a significant role. The interpretation of the wormhole geometries as part of some ensemble average implicit in the gravity description is also discussed.

Summary: Understanding the fate of semi-classical black hole solutions at very late times is an important open question in quantum gravity. In this paper, the authors provide a path integral definition of the volume of the black hole interior and study its evolution at arbitrarily late times. They find that, after a linear growth, the length of the interior saturates at a time and value that is exponentially large in the entropy of the black hole, which supports the complexity equals volume proposal.

Summary: We have found models of two dimensional gravity that solve the factorization puzzle and have a discrete spectrum, while still maintaining a semiclassical description. These models contain non-trivially correlated spacetime branes or nonlocal interactions, which are motivated by integrating out UV degrees of freedom in the low-energy gravity theory. By mapping the insertion of correlated branes to a certain double-trace deformation in the dual matrix integral, we show that factorization and discreteness persist even non-perturbatively. Although all wormholes are completely cancelled in our model, they are still computationally relevant and accurately approximate observables in the original theory with wormholes, accounting for UV corrections.

Summary: This research focuses on two-dimensional Liouville gravity and minimal string theory on spaces with fixed length boundaries. It investigates the gravitational dressing of bulk and boundary correlators in the disk and compares the results with a matrix model calculation for the (2, p) minimal string theory. Additionally, it explores the connection with a quantum deformation of SL(2,) and discusses the interpretation of the bulk theory as a 2D dilaton gravity model.

Summary: The proposal suggests including a new class of topologies in the path integral of three-dimensional pure gravity to address negative aspects in the spectrum, leading to a nonperturbative shift of the BTZ extremality bound. A two-dimensional calculation using dimensionally reduced theory can capture the primary effects in the near extremal limit, as demonstrated through a study of a related two-dimensional theory of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity with dynamic defects, which is shown to be equivalent to a matrix integral.

Summary: A large class of two-dimensional dilaton-gravity theories in asymptotically AdS(2) spacetimes are holographically dual to a matrix integral, interpreted as an ensemble average over Hamiltonians. Extending this duality to include conical defects with small deficit angles, the theories are shown to be equal to the large p limit of a natural deformation of the (2, p) minimal string theory.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the presence of replica wormholes in the Euclidean path integral of gravity results in a non-perturbative violation of charge conservation for any global symmetry in the low-energy description of quantum gravity. By computing the scattering probability between different charged states in various two-dimensional models of quantum gravity, it is found that the set of all charged states is typically over-complete, which has significant implications for the fate of black hole remnants with a global symmetry charge. In the holographic context, it is argued that the presence of such a symmetry in the effective description of the bulk should manifest as an emergent global symmetry on the boundary after ensemble averaging.
