Repoliticizing diversity work? Exploring the performative potentials of norm-critical activism

Summary: This study examines the potential of activist practices in promoting the repoliticization of organizational diversity work, drawing on insights from three norm-critical activists and discussing how their practices may influence formal organizational contexts through various means. The activists navigate tensions of personal vs. public issues, safe vs. unsafe spaces, and creative vs. conventional methods, showing how their practices can enable the repoliticization of diversity work by negotiating and recognizing norms of difference.

Summary: Feminist scholars have long believed in the existence of a rape culture in the United States, consisting of traditional gender roles, sexism, adversarial sexual beliefs, hostility toward women, and acceptance of violence. The study found challenges in translating individual beliefs into cultural support, but initial support for the proposed model of rape culture was identified.
