Neutron skin thickness of 90Zr and symmetry energy constrained by charge exchange spin-dipole excitations

Shi-Hui Cheng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the charge exchange spin-dipole (SD) excitations of Zr-90 using the Skyrme Hartee-Fock plus proton-neutron random phase approximation with SAMi-J interactions. The experimental value of the model-independent sum rule obtained from the SD strength distributions of Zr-90(p, n)Nb-90 and Zr-90(n,p)Y-90 is used to determine the neutron skin thickness. The extracted neutron skin thickness ?r(np) of Zr-90 is 90 0.083 +/- 0.032 fm, which is consistent with previous studies. Based on correlation analysis, the extracted ?r(np) imposes constraints on the nuclear symmetry energy J (29.2 +/- 2.6 MeV) and its slope parameter L (53.3 +/- 28.2 MeV).

Matter radius of the doubly-magic 56Ni measured in a storage ring

M. von Schmid et al.

Summary: The matter radius of the doubly magic Ni-56 was determined using elastic proton scattering in inverse kinematics with a radioactive beam at E-kin = 390.2MeV/nucleon. Novel Si detectors operated as active vacuum windows were used in the ESR storage ring at GSI for this experiment. The extracted matter radius < r(m)(2) >(1/2) > for Ni-56 was 3.74(-0.06)(+0.03) fm.

Matter radius determination of 16O via small-angle differential cross sections

Y. Huang et al.

Summary: The fundamental properties of doubly-magic nuclei, including radius and binding energy, have essential significance in theoretical calculations. The matter radii of O-16 have shown a significant discrepancy, especially those obtained from interaction cross sections. To address this issue, the small-angle differential cross sections of proton-nuclei elastic scattering in the energy range of 200-700 MeV were reanalyzed using the Glauber model. A precise matter radius of 2.554(20) fm for O-16 was determined. The calculated neutron skin thicknesses of O-16, obtained through different interactions, were found to be independent of symmetry energy and consistent with our results.
