Investigations on the iron-rich textile dyeing sludge pyrolysis characteristics: Thermal decomposition behaviors, products, potential mechanisms

Jinjiao Zhu et al.

Summary: The pyrolysis characteristics of iron-rich textile dyeing sludge (TDS) were investigated through various analyses and experiments. It was found that the thermal conversion of TDS could be divided into primary decomposition and secondary cracking stages. The end products included CO-rich gas, bio-oil, and Fe-rich residues. At a temperature of 1000 degrees C, the gas yield was 43.66 wt% while the solid yield declined to 47.42 wt% and the liquid yield was only 8.92 wt%, indicating the conversion of most organics into gas.

Utilization of renewable and sustainable aviation biofuels from waste tyres for sustainable aviation transport sector

Ali Gunerhan et al.

Summary: The need for sustainable and renewable alternative fuel sources is increasing due to limited fossil fuel resources and rising global fuel consumption. Waste tyres, with their high calorific value, are considered ideal raw material candidates for alternative fuels. This article examines studies in which oils produced from waste tyres by pyrolysis were tested as fuel in aviation gas turbine engines. The performance and emissions of the fuels were evaluated, showing that waste tyre pyrolysis oil can be used as an alternative fuel in gas turbine engines, with some improvements needed.

Effect of Si/Al additives on Cl fate during MSWI fly ash thermal treating process

Guiyun Yang et al.

Summary: SiO2 and Al2O3 are suitable additives for municipal solid waste incineration fly ash melting. The addition of SiO2 or Al2O3 significantly promotes the release of HCl. SiO2 has an obvious effect on reducing Cl percentage in residues, while Al2O3 is more likely to retain Cl in the residues.

Study on the elemental mercury removal performance of co-pyrolyzed Cl-loading activated carbon and the formation mechanism of C-Cl functional groups

Min Lv et al.

Summary: Co-pyrolysis of coconut shell activated carbon (AC) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was used to prepare a chloride-loading adsorbent with high mercury removal efficiency. The formation mechanism of C-Cl functional groups during the co-pyrolysis process was investigated, and two paths were identified. The first path involved the reformation of organic chlorine in PVC at low temperature, while the second path involved the combination of gaseous HCl with newly exposed carbon atom sites at high temperature. The study also revealed the promoting and inhibiting effects of NO, O2, and SO2 on the mercury removal ability of the chloride-loading adsorbent.

Bottom slag-to-flue gas controls on S and Cl from co-combustion of textile dyeing sludge and waste biochar: Their interactions with temperature, atmosphere, and blend ratio

Hongyi Huang et al.

Summary: This study quantified the distribution patterns and evolution pathways of S and Cl during the co-combustion of textile dyeing sludge (TDS) and waste biochar (BC). The findings showed that by controlling the atmosphere and adding biochar, the retention of S in the bottom slag could be increased while its release to the flue gas could be reduced. Additionally, the addition of biochar and the control of the atmosphere also had an effect on the Cl content in the bottom slag, inhibiting the decomposition of organic Cl.

A prospective absorption system for marine NOx removal from simulated gas using Na2SO3/urea composite absorbents in bubble reactor

Zhao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel marine NOx absorption technology using a composite Na2SO3/(NH2)(2)CO absorption system that efficiently absorbed NOx from ships. Through experiments, key parameters such as Na2SO3 concentration, (NH2)(2)CO concentration, SO2 concentration, oxygen concentration, NOx oxidation degree, initial NOx concentration, initial pH, and temperature were investigated to achieve a NOx absorption efficiency of 92.3% and low nitrate content under optimal conditions. The Na2SO3/(NH2)(2)CO absorption system showed great application prospects in fulfilling regulations on NOx removal efficiency and nitrate concentration in scrubber water on ships.

Synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy study of the evolution of chlorine during the pyro-hydrolysis of calcium and magnesium chloride waste

Song Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of chlorine during the pyrohydrolysis of CaCl2 waste, focusing on the use of silica and MgCl2 to promote the release of HCl gas. The addition of silica enables pyrohydrolysis to start at a lower temperature than predicted, while MgCl2 improves HCl regeneration to nearly 100%. Incorporating Mg2+ leads to a unique structural change, facilitating the easier liberation of Cl- from the silicate matrix.
