Utilization of lead ions to improve surface hydrophobicity and flotation recovery of sulfidized smithsonite

Meili Wang et al.

Summary: The presence of lead ions affects the surface properties and flotation behavior of zinc oxide minerals. The addition of lead ions enhances the floatability and flotation recovery of sulfidized smithsonite. This is attributed to the interaction between lead ions and the sulfidized smithsonite surfaces, which promotes xanthate adsorption and improves surface hydrophobicity.

Effect of low temperature extrusion-modified potato starch addition on properties of whole wheat dough and texture of whole wheat youtiao

Jiayu Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, low temperature extrusion-modified potato starch (MPS) was added to improve properties of whole wheat dough and textural quality of resulted youtiao. Effect of dissolved unavoidable ions (Fe3+) from iron-containing gangue minerals on dispersion behavior of zinc oxide ore

Zhongyi Liu et al.

Summary: With the decrease in zinc mineral resources, the secondary resource utilization of zinc tailings has attracted attention worldwide. The presence of soluble minerals in zinc oxide tailings, such as limonite and pyrite, results in interactions with the metal ions on the mineral surface. The presence of Fe3+ ions disrupts the dispersion behavior of smithsonite and affects its separation and recovery.

Experimental and computational study of the differential sulfidization mechanism of smithsonite and calcite

Yuanjia Luo et al.

Summary: The differential sulfidization mechanism of smithsonite and calcite was researched using DFT computations, XPS, and ICP experiments. The results showed that the interaction between hydrated smithsonite surface and HS was stronger than that with hydrated calcite surface, and the opposite was observed for the interaction between H2O and HS on both surfaces. This was further supported by XPS and ICP tests.

Effect of dispersants on the stability of calcite in non-polar solutions

Shuai Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of dispersants to improve the compatibility of calcite with non-polar solutions and investigates the dispersion effect and mechanism of various dispersants. The results show that anionic bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate sodium (AOT) has the best dispersion performance and efficiency. All dispersants, except cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), can significantly improve the wettability of the particle surface, and AOT-adsorbed calcite exhibits the best hydrophobicity. XRD, FT-IR, and XPS results confirm the adsorption of dispersants on the surface of calcite, with AOT adsorbing through coordination with Ca2+. Zeta potential analysis reveals that the calcite system with anionic AOT has the highest surface charges due to strong electrostatic interactions.

Activation-inhibition mechanism of diammonium hydrogen phosphate in flotation separation of brucite and calcite

Xiufeng Gong et al.

Summary: In this study, we used diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DHP) to regulate the flotation separation of brucite and calcite. DHP was found to have activation and inhibition effects on calcite and brucite flotation, respectively, resulting in a significant recovery difference between the two minerals. Further analysis showed that DHP affects the contact angle and zeta potential of calcite and brucite surfaces, leading to differences in their floatability. In addition, infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy tests revealed the adsorption behavior of DHP on the mineral surfaces, confirming its stronger affinity for calcite than brucite.

Comparison of the molecular structure of heat and pressure-treated corn starch based on experimental data and molecular dynamics simulation

Zhenyu Liu et al.

Summary: The effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) and heating on the molecular structure of corn starch was investigated using experimental methods and molecular dynamics simulation. The study found that heating led to a higher level of gelatinization, with increased amorphous content and reduced molecular weights. In contrast, HHP triggered more amylose-water hydrogen bonds and increased the freedom degree of water molecules. These findings contribute to our understanding of the molecular features of heating and HHP gelatinization and provide a molecular tool for selecting better modification parameters in the starch industry.

The role of copper ion and soluble starch used as a combined depressant in the flotation separation of fluorite from calcite: New insights on the application of modified starch in mineral processing

Ruofan Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects and mechanisms of Cu2+ and soluble starch (SS) in the flotation separation of fluorite and calcite. The results show that the combination of Cu2+ and SS can effectively depress calcite, while the impact on fluorite flotation is relatively small. Various analyses revealed that Cu2+ can react with SS to form a Cu-SS complex, leading to differential flotation performance between fluorite and calcite.

Using phytic acid as a depressant for the selective flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite

Yuanlin Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, phytic acid (PA) was applied as a depressant for the flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite. The selective depressing effect of PA was well investigated, and it was found that the different active sites on the minerals' surfaces played a key role in the selective adsorption of PA. This research provides theoretical and practical reference for the clean flotation of smithsonite.

Flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite with guar gum as depressant

Duo Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, guar gum was successfully employed as a depressant for calcite during smithsonite flotation. The mechanism of its function was investigated through micro flotation, XPS analysis, FT-IR analysis, and Zeta potential measurement. The results showed that guar gum can effectively separate smithsonite from calcite by selectively adsorbing on the calcite surface and hindering the interaction between sodium oleate and calcite surface, thus achieving the efficient flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite.
