Zifan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, optimal sensor placement (OSP) for strain sensing of a high-speed EMU beam is investigated using the information gain and modal expansion method within the Bayesian framework. The role of prediction error in OSP and strain reconstruction is studied in detail, and two new prediction errors are proposed. The method is validated through a case study of a beam and full-scale beam monitoring systems based on Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors.

Multi-sensor data fusion for rotating machinery fault detection using improved cyclic spectral covariance matrix and motor current signal analysis

Junchao Guo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method for rotating machinery fault detection, which achieves multi-sensor data fusion using improved cyclic spectral covariance matrix (ICSCM) and motor current signal analysis. The proposed method adaptively acquires multi-sensor mode components and constructs ICSCM using sample entropy to preserve the interaction relationship between different sensors. The ICSCM is then incorporated into an extreme learning machine classifier for fault type identification. The proposed method has achieved satisfactory results and more reliable diagnosis accuracy than other state-of-the-art algorithms in rotating machinery fault detection.

Temperature and vibration insensitive fiber optic vector magnetic field sensor

Yanru Zhou et al.

Summary: A fiber optic vector magnetic field sensor based on the magneto-optical Faraday effect is proposed and demonstrated in this paper, which has excellent environmental adaptability. The sensor utilizes the polarization dependence of Faraday effect in polarization-maintaining fiber coil, and uses two orthogonal polarization states to detect the direction and intensity of the magnetic field. The sensor can theoretically achieve complete suppression of environmental temperature and vibration errors, and has potential applications in navigation, vehicle detection, and current sensing.

Summary: SAW sensors are highly valued for their small size, simple structure, and high sensitivity. This paper presents an innovative idea of using a single multi-port reflective delay line SAW device to simultaneously measure multiple magnetic field components. The sensor uses GMI amorphous wires as a magnetic sensitive element, integrated externally with the reflective ports of the SAW device, making it suitable for wireless sensing of magnetic field components in applications where conventional magnetic sensors are not ideal.

Damage identification of offshore jacket platforms in a digital twin framework considering optimal sensor placement

Mengmeng Wang et al.

Summary: A new digital twin (DT) framework with optimal sensor placement (OSP) is proposed, which accurately calculates the modal responses and identifies the damage ratios of offshore jacket platforms. The framework consists of an OSP model and a damage identification model. The OSP model optimizes the sensor number/location using the multi-objective Lichtenberg algorithm (MOLA) to balance the sensor cost and modal calculation accuracy. The damage identification model uses the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC)-Bayesian method to calculate the structural damage ratios based on modal information obtained from sensory measurements, considering the uncertainties of structural parameters. The method is validated using an offshore jacket platform, demonstrating efficient identification of structural damage location and severity.

A digital twin-enhanced semi-supervised framework for motor fault diagnosis based on phase-contrastive current dot pattern

Pengcheng Xia et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a digital twin-enhanced semi-supervised framework for label-scarce motor fault diagnosis. A precise motor digital twin model is established based on multi-physics simulation, and knowledge transfer is performed from the virtual space to the physical space. A novel phase-contrastive current dot pattern (PCCDP) representation is proposed to transform three-phase motor stator current to a gray-scale image for efficient processing. Inter-space sample generation, intra-space sample generation, and clustering-based metric learning methods are introduced to improve fault diagnosis performance.

A novel fault diagnosis method for early faults of PMSMs under multiple operating conditions

Tao Peng et al.

Summary: Early fault diagnosis under multiple operating conditions is crucial for improving the reliability of the PMSM system. This paper proposes a novel method for diagnosing irreversible demagnetization fault and inter-turn short fault in PMSM under multiple operating conditions. A multi-layer self-attention mechanism is constructed to capture the long time dependency from the sensor signal, enabling the fusion of features from individual operating conditions for fault diagnosis in unseen operating conditions. Additionally, a local feature extraction structure is proposed to extract effective features from early faults using end-to-end deep learning features and time-frequency domain features. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves high accuracy for early fault diagnosis of PMSM in unseen operating conditions.
