Waterborne etherified MF and PVAc hybrid resin containing nanoclay as intumescent flame-retardant plywood coatings

Chih-Shen Chuang et al.

Summary: The flame retardancy of waterborne intumescent coatings for plywood was studied by adding different concentrations of organoclay to a hybrid resin. Coatings containing the modified clay exhibited superior flame-retardant properties compared to coatings with unmodified clay. The presence of organoclay promoted the formation of an ideal char layer during combustion. Intumescent coatings with 3% or 5% organoclay showed a greater reduction in flammability than coatings with higher concentrations.

Recyclable nanocomposites for carbon dioxide fixation and membrane separation using waste polycarbonate

Ying-Chi Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, polymer nanocomposite membranes with recyclability were developed to achieve good mechanical properties and gas permeability by using a recycled polymeric material. The research focused on converting waste PC into intermediates with alkoxysilane and phenolic groups, which were then used to produce polyurethane/silica (PU/SiO2) nanohybrids. The resulting membranes had microcavity structures, facilitating gas diffusion and improving gas permeability. Furthermore, the addition of aliphatic polycarbonate polyol enhanced CO2 solubility, making the PU/SiO2 nanohybrids suitable for gas separation membranes. The nanohybrid membranes exhibited high gas permeability and excellent elastomeric properties.

Enhancing the mechanical properties of biodegradable PLLA/PBAT blends for 3D filament via one-pot synthesized CNCs-PVAc powder

Haipeng Wu et al.

Summary: The combination of polymer blends and nanofillers is an effective strategy for creating high-performance polymer alloys. In this study, a one-pot synthesized polyvinyl acetate-modified cellulose nanocrystal (CNCs-PVAc) powder was used to enhance the properties of a PLLA/PBAT blend for 3D filament. The presence of ungrafted PVAc homopolymer improved the dispersion of CNCs in the blend and resulted in an improvement in strength and toughness. Additionally, the nanocomposites showed excellent biodegradability, biocompatibility, and shape-memory properties.

Miscibility, crystallization, mechanical, and rheological properties of poly (L-lactic acid)/poly(vinyl acetate) blends

Yi Li et al.

Summary: Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) with high molecular weight were melt compounded to prepare blends with improved mechanical and rheological properties. The addition of PVAc improved the viscoelasticity of PLA melt and suppressed cold crystallization. PVAc also reduced the crystallization rate without changing the crystallization mechanism. The PLA/PVAc blends showed increased modulus, yield strength, and elongation at break compared to neat PLA. The blends prepared by melt blending process exhibited improved stiffness, strength, ductility, and melt strength, meeting the performance and process requirements of PLA in various fields.

Simulation study on the co-polymerization of vinyl acetate between ethylene

Xiuqin Dong et al.

Summary: Vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer is an important chemical product formed by the polymerization of vinyl acetate and ethylene. The lack of kinetic parameters makes the reactions involved in the production process complex. By using Density Functional Theory, molecular models were constructed to understand the polymerization process. The research found that batch operation is more suitable for complete conversion, while continuous operation is advantageous for synthesizing products with stable quality.

Insight into Acetic Acid Synthesis from the Reaction of CH4 and CO2

Chunyan Tu et al.

Summary: This article critically assesses the progress of the catalytic reaction of CH4 and CO2 to produce acetic acid, focusing on identifying and constructing active sites. The differences in metal oxidation state can affect the activation of CH4 and CO2, thereby changing the efficiency of the reaction. By modifying the active sites and transition states through metal site placement, framework environment, and acid site promotion, the efficiency of heterogeneous catalysts can be improved for this reaction.
