Virtual reality for car-detailing skill development: Learning outcomes of procedural accuracy and performance quality predicted by VR self-efficacy, VR using anxiety, VR learning interest and flow experience

Kai-Hsin Tai et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of virtual reality (VR) for car detailing training and predicts learning outcomes based on students' self-efficacy, learning interest, and situational anxiety. The results show that learners' flow experience can predict the accuracy and quality of performance in training, while VR self-efficacy is positively related to learning interest and negatively related to usage anxiety.

Tennis expertise reduces costs in cognition but not in motor skills in a cognitive-motor dual-task condition

Gianluca Amico et al.

Summary: Dual-process theories predict that limited cognitive resources in dual-task situations lead to performance reductions. This study found that expert tennis players show smaller costs compared to intermediate players, indicating a task-prioritization strategy in favor of the tennis task.

The role of family intimacy in playing collaborative e-sports with a Switch device to predict the experience of flow and anxiety during COVID-19 lockdown

Jon-Chao Hong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of family intimacy on game experience and perceived value. The results revealed that family intimacy positively predicted flow experience, but had no significant relation to gameplay anxiety. Flow experience positively predicted perceived value, while gameplay anxiety did not significantly predict perceived value.

An integrated emotional and physiological assessment for VR-based active shooter incident experiments

Mohamad Awada et al.

Summary: The study aimed to test the effectiveness of an active shooter VR experiment in inducing emotional and physiological responses, considering different locomotion techniques, and found that the experiment could evoke emotional arousal and increase heart rate. The walk-in-place technique resulted in higher emotional arousal in terms of negative emotions and a stronger sense of presence compared to the controller.

Influence of non-immersive avatar-based gamification on the Hawthorne Effect in pediatric gait

Mark D. Geil et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that using a low-immersion avatar-based intervention can reduce the Hawthorne effect and improve the naturalness of gait in typically developing children. The intervention had a more significant effect on females and younger children, who reported feeling happier and more positive after the intervention. Interestingly, changes in feelings were not directly correlated with changes in gait parameters.

The Effect of Object-Free and Object-Related Intelligences on Hands-On Making Self-Efficacy and Attitude Toward Quality Improvement

Jon-Chao Hong et al.

Summary: This research focused on a STEAM contest where students used hand tools to create models and then participated in relay races and tug-of-war contests. The study found that students' intelligences were positively related to their hands-on making self-efficacy (HMSE), which in turn was positively related to their attitude toward quality improvement (ATQI). ATQI was found to be crucial for students to win in the contest, especially for those with high levels of intelligence mediated by HMSE.
