In this study, a wideband pattern-diversity cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with high isolation is proposed. By utilizing specific structures and excitation methods, a wide operating bandwidth and diverse radiation patterns are achieved.
A wideband pattern-diversity cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with high isolation is proposed. Based on the equivalent medium principle and the presented DRA structure of wheel shape, the resonant frequency of the HEM11 delta mode is increased and combined with that of the HEM12 delta+1 mode to obtain a wide operation band, both of which are excited by a rectangular slot. In addition, the TM01 delta mode with wideband impedance matching is well excited by a probe in the presented antenna. The TM01 delta mode with omnidirectional pattern and the HEM11 delta and HEM12 delta+1 modes with an unidirectional pattern are utilized to obtain wideband pattern-diversity DRA. For verification, a prototype of the presented DRA was fabricated and measured. The measured overlapped impedance bandwidth is about 30% (3.08-4.16 GHz), and the port isolation is higher than 30 dB. Besides, the envelope correlation coefficient is very low.
