Underactuated control and analysis of single blade installation using a jackup installation vessel and active tugger line force control

Zhengru Ren et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel approach for assembly and installation of single wind turbine blades. By introducing active tension control on the tugger lines, operations in higher sea states can be achieved, reducing waiting time and improving efficiency. The two-tugger-line configuration stabilizes the suspended blade during crane rotation and blade root-hub mating processes. A backstepping-like controller is designed to stabilize and track the blade. Sensitivity studies are conducted to evaluate the influence of tugger line inclinations and the impact of installed blades on the wind turbine.

Vehicle Recognition Based on Region Growth of Relative Tension and Similarity Measurement of Side Projection Profile of Vehicle Body

Mingxue Zheng et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method for recognizing vehicles by measuring the similarity of side projection profile of a vehicle's body using the region growth of relative tension. The 3D point clouds are divided into spatial regions and projected to a 2D plane. Relevant 2D features, including side projection profile and sizes, are extracted and used to select regions and point clouds that meet the similarity measurement conditions of vehicles. The proposed algorithm achieves high recall, precision, and F-score in recognizing vehicles, outperforming other methods.

Multi-strategy competitive-cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm and its application

Xiangbing Zhou et al.

Summary: In this paper, a multi-strategy competitive-cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm named MSCOEA is proposed to effectively solve multi-objective optimization problems and balance uniformity and convergence. The MSCOEA incorporates a new adaptive random competition strategy to maintain diversity in sub-populations, and a neighborhood crossover strategy to enhance local search ability. Experimental results on different benchmark functions demonstrate that the MSCOEA achieves better optimization performance and robustness compared to other algorithms, while effectively balancing convergence and uniformity. The convergence performance of the adaptive random competition and neighborhood crossover strategies is also analyzed.

A machine learning-based method for prediction of ship performance in ice: Part I. ice resistance

Qianyang Sun et al.

Summary: This study focuses on using suitable ship and ice parameters to design an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model for estimating ship resistance in ice-covered water. A reliable model is developed by collecting ice resistance test data from ship sea trials and model test measurements to train the neural network. Different combinations of ship design parameters and ice mechanic properties are explored, and several algorithms are tested and compared to select a good resistance prediction model. The study shows that the ANN can accurately predict ice resistance and outperform conventional semiempirical formulas used in polar ship design.

Emre Ozdemir et al.

Summary: With recent advances in technologies, deep learning has been increasingly applied to various tasks. In this study, an efficient framework named TONIC is proposed, which can work with any kind of aerial data source (LiDAR or photogrammetry) without requiring high computational power, achieving accuracy on par with the current state of the art methods. The framework also demonstrates the ability to generalize and predict on unseen aerial scenarios.

Disturbance Analysis in the Classification of Objects Obtained from Urban LiDAR Point Clouds with Convolutional Neural Networks

Jesus Balado et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the impact of three disturbances (point density variation, ambient noise, and occlusions) on the classification of urban objects in point clouds. The results showed different behaviors for each disturbance: density reduction affected objects depending on the object shape and dimensions, ambient noise depending on the volume of the object, while occlusions depended on their size and location. Training the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with synthetic samples with disturbances resulted in improved performance, except for occlusions with a radius larger than 1 m.
