Seasonal variation of leachate from municipal solid waste landfill of Tripoli-Lebanon (case study)

A. Moustafa et al.

Summary: The waste management system and dumpsite distribution in Lebanon has caused environmental concerns due to the contamination of water systems, including the Mediterranean Sea, by the poorly studied landfills such as the Tripoli Municipal Solid Waste Landfill. A study was conducted to assess the composition and impact of the landfill's leachate on the nearby Abou Ali River and Mediterranean Sea. Results showed that the landfill's leachate posed a high contamination risk, with significant variations in quantity and quality depending on weather conditions.

Municipal solid waste management and landfilling technologies: a review

Sonil Nanda et al.

Summary: The USA, China, and India are the top producers of municipal solid waste, with waste composition varying based on income levels. Municipal solid waste management options include recycling, incineration, waste-to-energy conversion, composting, or landfilling. Landfilling is a preferred method globally, with critical factors for sustainability including liners, soil cover thickness, leachate collection, and gas recovery facilities. Landfills act as ecological reactors undergoing various transformations, with bioreactor landfills emerging as a next-generation solution for efficient waste stabilization through controlled recirculation.

The Effect of Initial Conditions with Aerobic Biological Treatment on Aniline Dyeing Wastewater

Huancheng Dong et al.

Summary: This study utilized aerobic biological treatment to treat aniline dyeing wastewater, finding that COD degradation rate increased with increasing biomass. The optimal operating conditions were a sludge concentration of 4 g/L, an initial pH value range of 7.0-8.0, and a salinity of 1.7%. Sphingopyxis was found to effectively biodegrade organic compounds in aniline dyeing wastewater.
