Nursing Home Life from Residents' Perspective

Levent Tas et al.

Summary: This study explores the perceptions of elderly individuals on nursing home life. It aims to understand the reasons why residents prefer nursing home life and their experiences in these facilities. The findings indicate that financial difficulties, the need for social support, and the search for peace and freedom are the main factors influencing residents' preference for nursing homes. While nursing home life provides comfort and meets daily needs, it lacks the social and psychological support provided by family for some residents. The essence of nursing home life can be defined by the concepts of necessity, comfort, and longing.
