The Dark Side of Machiavellian Rhetoric: Signaling in Reward-Based Crowdfunding Performance

Summary: This study explores the impact of Machiavellian rhetoric on fundraising in the context of online crowdfunding. Using data from Kickstarter, the study finds that revenge, self-disclosure, and intimidation have negative effects on crowdfunding performance, while ingratiation and persuasion have mixed positive effects. Surprisingly, betrayal rhetoric is positively related to crowdfunding performance.

NPO Web-Based Accountability: How Can We Know If NPOs Are Doing Good Things?

The study investigates the practices of five Australian NPO award finalists and 160 NPOs more broadly. The study suggests that regulatory requirements play a crucial role in strengthening NPOs' accountability and highlights the importance of social performance reporting.
