Fabrication, structural, morphological, and optical studies of CdS:Cu nanostructured thin films: effect of Cu concentration

Atefeh Nazari Setayesh et al.

Summary: Copper-doped cadmium sulfide (CdS:Cu) nanocrystalline thin films with different Cu concentrations were prepared using the sol-gel spin coating technique. The films were characterized using XRD, SEM, EDX, and SE techniques to analyze their crystallite size, morphology, and optical properties. The results showed that increasing Cu concentration led to larger grain size and higher transparency in the CdS:Cu films. The 6 wt.% CdS:Cu film exhibited high transparency, good homogeneity, and a substantial band gap energy, making it suitable for photocatalytic and photovoltaic applications.

Summary: This study explores the characteristics of cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films grown on ultra-thin glass substrates through RF magnetron sputtering and chemical bath deposition (CBD). The XRD analysis reveals a stable hexagonal wurtzite structure with (002) preferential orientation for both deposition methods. Optical analysis shows band gaps of 2.40 eV and 2.32 eV for sputtering and CBD methods, respectively. Overall, the experimental results suggest that CdS thin films grown by sputtering may be favorable as the window layer for solar cell applications.

Significant and systematic impact of yttrium doping on physical properties of nickel oxide nanoparticles for optoelectronics applications

Kamlesh Chandekar et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural, optical, and dielectric properties of pure NiO and yttrium (Y) doped NiO were investigated for optoelectronic applications. The doping of Y in NiO resulted in a decrease in crystallite and grain sizes, increase in dislocation density, lattice strain, and surface area. The direct optical band gaps of the prepared samples were estimated, and the photoluminescence spectra indicated the presence of oxygen and nickel vacancies. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss, loss tangent, and electrical conductivities were observed to improve with Y doping, showcasing the potential for optoelectronic applications.
