Long-term analysis of the urban heat island effect using multisource Landsat images considering inter-class differences in land surface temperature products

Xiong Xu et al.

Summary: It is important to quantitatively analyze the long-term temporal and spatial characteristics of the urban heat island (UHI) effect for applications in urban expansion and environmental protection. Remote sensing images from Landsat satellites are widely used due to their high spatial resolution and long time-series data availability. However, differences between multisource sensors, such as Landsat-7 and Landsat-8, can result in apparent deviations in the retrieved land surface temperature (LST) results. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a relationship between LST results from different sensor data for future research on the UHI effect. In this study, a fitting relationship between LST products from Landsat-7 and Landsat-8 images was explored using data obtained from adjacent dates with similar climatic conditions in Shenzhen city.

Adjacent Context Coordination Network for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing Images

Gongyang Li et al.

Summary: In this article, a novel adjacent context coordination network (ACCoNet) is proposed for salient object detection (SOD) in optical remote sensing images (RSIs). ACCoNet improves the performance of SOD by exploring the coordination of adjacent features in an encoder-decoder architecture and introduces local and adjacent branches to handle multilevel features. Additionally, a bifurcation-aggregation block (BAB) is introduced to capture contextual information by extending the capabilities of the classic decoder block.

Absolute radiometric calibration evaluation of the thermal infrared spectrometer onboard SDGSAT-1

Yonghong Hu et al.

Summary: A thermal infrared spectrometer is a crucial sensor on SDGSAT-1 for sustainable development. Field campaigns were conducted to evaluate radiometric calibrations by deriving spectral radiance of lake surface. Results showed varying calibration accuracy among different bands, with band 3 having the best accuracy. Atmospheric conditions and surface characterization affect the calibration accuracy. Regular field experiments are necessary to monitor and improve calibration, creating high-resolution and reasonable datasets.

A Complete YOLO-Based Ship Detection Method for Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing Images under Complex Backgrounds

Liyuan Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a complete YOLO-based ship detection method (CYSDM) for thermal infrared remote sensing images (TIRSIs) under complex backgrounds is proposed. The method utilizes a thermal infrared ship dataset and an improved YOLOv5s model. Test results show that CYSDM achieves a precision of 98.68%, which is 9.07% higher than the YOLOv5s algorithm. CYSDM provides an effective reference for large-scale, all-day ship detection.

Remote-Sensing Image Segmentation Based on Implicit 3-D Scene Representation

Zipeng Qi et al.

Summary: This research focuses on remote-sensing image segmentation using the 3-D structure of multiview images and a limited amount of annotations. They propose a novel method based on implicit 3-D scene representation to generate accurate segmentation output with limited annotations, and also provide a data augmentation approach. Experiments show that this method outperforms existing methods in both synthetic and real-world data.

Landsat 9 Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 On-Orbit Calibration and Initial Performance

Aaron Pearlman et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the calibration updates and performance testing results of the Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS-2) on Landsat 9. By transferring the prelaunch calibration to on-orbit and implementing additional corrections, TIRS-2 is able to generate high-quality imagery. The experimental results show that TIRS-2 has an instability of approximately 0.025%, a noise equivalent delta temperature (NEdT) of around 80mK, and an absolute radiometric uncertainty of less than 1.4% within its nominal temperature range.
