Activation mechanism of ammonium oxalate with pyrite in the lime system and its response to flotation separation of pyrite from arsenopyrite

Runpeng Liao et al.

Summary: The activation properties of ammonium oxalate on the flotation of pyrite and arsenopyrite in the lime system were investigated. The results showed that ammonium oxalate strongly activated pyrite but had little effect on arsenopyrite. The addition of ammonium oxalate achieved a recovery difference of more than 85% between pyrite and arsenopyrite in mineral mixture tests. The hydrophobicity of pyrite increased significantly after treatment with ammonium oxalate and ethyl xanthate, suggesting the potential of ammonium oxalate as a selective activator for pyrite flotation under high alkalinity and high Ca2+ concentration conditions.

Selective enhancement of jamesonite flotation using Aerophine 3418A/DDTC mixture

Weiyong Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, mixed collectors containing Aerophine 3418A and DDTC were used to improve the flotation of jamesonite. The results showed that 3418A/DDTC mixture exhibited excellent selectivity and a shorter conditioning time compared to conventional DDTC. FTIR and SEM-EDS analyses demonstrated that 3418A and DDTC could perform synergistic chemi-sorption on jamesonite surface, with 3418A showing higher residual amount on the surface. DFT calculation further revealed the adsorption mechanism, with 3418A overcoming binding interactions and DDTC strengthening the hydrophobic layer.

Novel polyhydroxy cationic collector N-(2,3-propanediol)-N- dodecylamine: Synthesis and flotation performance to hematite and quartz

Wenbao Liu et al.

Summary: To enhance the performance of cationic collectors, a novel polyhydroxy amine collector called N-(2,3-Propanediol)-N-dodecylamine (PDDA) was designed by introducing a propylene glycol group into dodecylamine (DDA). PDDA showed better solubility and hydrophobicity than DDA and demonstrated excellent flotation performance and selectivity for the separation of hematite and quartz. The interaction between PDDA and the mineral surfaces was mainly electrostatic adsorption and hydrogen bonding, with a higher affinity of PDDA for quartz surfaces. The optimization of amine collectors by introducing hydroxyl has significant implications for the design, development, and application of polyhydroxy cationic collectors.

Effect of dissolved components of malachite and calcite on surface properties and flotation behavior

Zhihao Shen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of dissolved components derived from malachite and calcite on the flotation behavior and surface characteristics of both minerals. It was found that the presence of calcite supernatant decreased the recovery of malachite, while the malachite supernatant increased the recovery of calcite. Various tests demonstrated that the Ca species in the calcite supernatant hindered the interaction of Na2S with malachite, resulting in insufficient adsorption of NaIX on the surface of malachite. On the other hand, the Cu species in the malachite supernatant provided active sites for the adsorption of Na2S and NaIX onto the calcite surface.

A lead-free flotation process for enriching wolframite with H2O2 and dithiocarbamate-hydroxamic acid

Jing Qi et al.

Summary: This study used a green and eco-friendly oxidation flotation method with H2O2 and HAHD to enrich wolframite, achieving excellent results in lead-free pulp. Compared to traditional technology with lead ion pre-activation and BHA collection, the new approach with H2O2 oxidation and HAHD flotation significantly improved the floatability of wolframite. Therefore, lead-free flotation of wolframite was achieved through this method.

Insights into the synergistic adsorption mechanism of mixed SDS/DDA collectors on biotite using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation

Rui Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the flotation behaviors and mechanisms of mixed sodium dodecylsulfonate (SDS)/dodecylamine (DDA) collectors on biotite surface were systematically investigated. The results showed that the recovery of biotite increased to above 90% with the addition of mixed collectors at alkaline pH, while the recovery of quartz was below 10%.

Hydrolytic polymaleic anhydride as a depressant for flotation separation of fine smithsonite from calcite: An experimental and MD study

Runpeng Liao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of hydrolytic polymaleic anhydride (HPMA) on the flotation separation of fine smithsonite and fine calcite in the Na2S-Pb(II)-xanthate system. The results showed that HPMA significantly decreased the floatability of calcite while only having a slight effect on smithsonite. HPMA dissolved Ca2+ ions from the calcite surface and chemically adsorbed onto it, blocking the formation of Pb(II)-S species and reducing xanthate adsorption.

Ammonia pretreatment for enhancement of Pb ions adsorption on smithsonite surface and its flotation performance

Song Zhang et al.

Summary: Surface modification of smithsonite with Pb ions using NH3•H2O enhanced Pb ion adsorption, leading to improved flotation performance. The main Pb species adsorbed were Pb(OH)2 and Pb3(CO3)2(OH)2 precipitates, increasing by 35.29% on the smithsonite surface. This method increased the recovery of NH3•H2O-pretreated smithsonite by approximately 10% in a Pb ion-modified sulfidization-xanthate flotation system.

Effect of surface oxidization on quartz slime coating in the sulfidization-amine flotation of smithsonite

Mengtao Wang et al.

Summary: In the sulfidization-amine flotation of zinc oxide, the presence of slime deteriorates the efficiency of zinc recovery, especially in the cleaner flotation stage. The oxidization of smithsonite samples exacerbates the adverse effects of quartz slime coating, and the surface of oxidized smithsonite samples can easily be covered by quartz slimes. The stronger interaction between quartz slime and the surface of the smithsonite samples with high oxidization is confirmed by zeta potential measurements and DLVO theory calculations. The oxidation of sulfide products to sulfate species is an important reason for the deterioration of the slime coating, as illustrated by XPS analysis.
