Exploring single-line walking in immersive virtual reality

Luke de Schot et al.

Summary: This study examines the movement of individuals in a virtual reality (VR) environment and its potential for gathering new crowd movement data. The results show a positive correlation between walking speed and inter-person distance within the range of 1.0 to 1.5 meters, but walking speed is not dependent on inter-person distance beyond 1.5 meters. Additionally, no significant difference was observed in the relationship between walking speed and inter-person distance across different experimental setups.

Application of Minecraft in the study of evacuation dynamics under fire emergency conditions

Zhi Chao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study conducted evacuation experiments in Minecraft under fire emergency conditions and found that people tend to detour in advance to avoid the fire. The formation of a self-organized queue and sequential passage through the exit characterized the evacuations in corridor-like rooms. The research demonstrated the feasibility of using Minecraft to simulate fire evacuations.

Why do people make risky decisions during a fire evacuation? Study on the effect of smoke level, individual risk preference, and neighbor behavior

Meiqing Fu et al.

Summary: This study used virtual reality technology to conduct a fire evacuation experiment, revealing that individuals with a higher risk preference are more likely to choose a risky shortcut, but individual attitudes towards risk are unstable and neighbor behavior also influences individual risky decisions.

Development of an evacuation model considering the impact of stress variation on evacuees under fire emergency

Rui Feng Cao et al.

Summary: This study highlights the impact of stress on evacuees' behavior and overall evacuation characteristics during fire emergencies. A proposed evacuation model numerically determines evacuees' stress levels based on their specific environment, providing insight into crowd evacuation dynamics and stress variation effects. This model offers a new perspective on understanding evacuation processes and the role of stress factor in emergency situations.
