Summary: Binder-free CeO2 coated/Pd-decorated CuxO nanowires were synthesized through a four-step process involving electrochemical nanoengineering, galvanic replacement, soaking, and thermal annealing. The resulting nanowires exhibited enhanced sensing properties to H2S due to the optimized Pd thin layer and moisture-blocking CeO2 overlayer. The sensor showed a high response to H2S, rapid response/recovery speed, good selectivity, and humidity-independent sensing properties, making it suitable for environmental monitoring.

Summary: A self-powered carbon dioxide (CO2) gas sensor based on CeO2/CdS triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) was developed, which exhibited good sensitivity and selectivity. The resistive type and self-powered CO2 gas sensing performance of CeO2, CdS, and CeO2/CdS nanomaterials were compared. CeO2/CdS heterostructure was confirmed to form a type II heterojunction through XPS analysis. The CeO2/CdS showed a regular nanosphere morphology with a size range of 30-60 nm. The resistive type CO2 gas sensor achieved a sensor response of 3.96 at 1000 ppm CO2, while the self-powered CO2 gas sensor achieved a response of 30 at the same concentration. The minimum response and recovery times for 250 ppm CO2 were found to be 1835 and 835 ms, respectively. The self-powered CeO2/CdS TENG-based CO2 sensor demonstrated high sensitivity, selectivity, and quick responsiveness.

Summary: Heterostructured alpha-Fe2O3/SnO2 core-shell nanowires were successfully synthesized using atomic layer deposition (ALD). The gas sensing properties of the nanowires with different shell thicknesses were investigated and the gas sensing mechanism was analyzed. The sensors exhibited high responses towards H2S and showed excellent selectivity, repeatability, and long-term stability. The formation of the alpha-Fe2O3/SnO2 heterojunction contributed to the enhanced performance, which was confirmed by density functional theory calculations.

Summary: A sensitive H2S sensor for detecting low concentrations of H2S in SF6 electrical equipment was developed using ZnO nanorods-modified SnS2 Debye nanowires. At an optimum temperature of 180 degrees C, the sensor showed a response time of 10 s and a recovery time of 51 s to 30 ppm H2S, with a response value of 71.2%. The sensor exhibited a detection limit as low as 50 ppb for H2S, along with excellent stability, moisture resistance, and long-term stability. The study also demonstrated that ZnO enhanced the adsorption performance of SnS2 on H2S. The H2S sensor prepared using ZnO-SnS2 is expected to be a promising candidate for detecting hazardous gases in the environment and SF6 decomposition products.

Various characterization techniques were employed to analyze the gas sensing performance of the prepared MoS2-GO (1 to 5 wt%) hybrids. The results showed that the hybrid with 3% GO exhibited the highest response towards 100 ppm hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas at room temperature, with the lowest detected concentration of 1 ppm and a response value of 0.51%. This study investigated the synergistic effect of MoS2 NPs and GO sheets on the gas sensing performance for the first time.

Summary: A tunable bandgap without doping has been achieved by simply changing the synthesis temperature of Fe2O3 nanostructured films. The increase of Fe2+ cations and cubic (gamma) phase with elevated synthesis temperatures resulted in a reduction in the bandgap. This non-doping linear bandgap reduction of 0.55 eV makes Fe2O3 nanostructured films promising materials for applications in bandgap engineering, optoelectronic devices, and energy storage devices.
