Proteomics Evidence of the Role of TDMQ20 in the Cholinergic System and Synaptic Transmission in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease

Fanfan Sun et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of the copper chelator TDMQ20 on protein expression in the brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice. They found that TDMQ20 treatment resulted in opposite changes in the expression of 35 proteins compared to wild type mice. Specifically, the expression levels of ChAT and CHRM4 were significantly increased upon TDMQ20 treatment, while another chelator, CQ, did not significantly affect the expression of these proteins.

Loss of Cholinergic Receptor Muscarinic 1 (CHRM1) Protein in the Hippocampus and Temporal Cortex of a Subset of Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, or Frontotemporal Dementia: Implications for Patient Survival

Mohammad Golam Sabbir et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the protein level of CHRM1 in postmortem brain tissues of AD, PD, and FTD patients. The results showed a significant reduction of CHRM1 protein in the hippocampus and temporal cortex of dementia patients, which may explain the limited efficacy of AChE inhibitors in treating dementia.

The role of manganese dysregulation in neurological disease: emerging evidence

Dimitri Budinger et al.

Summary: Manganese is an essential trace metal crucial for brain development and key neurophysiological processes. Dysregulation of manganese is linked to acquired manganism in miners, inherited manganese transportopathies, and neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Ongoing research aims to develop better targeted therapeutic strategies for manganese-associated neurological disorders.
