High sensitivity and excellent durability of wearable microenvironmental humidity sensors inspired by the spider-web

Chao Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-performance microenvironmental humidity sensor was developed based on the structure of a spider web. The sensor consists of a carbon nanotube network with cellulose nodes constructed on a cotton fabric surface using micro-dissolution technology. The sensor exhibited excellent sensitivity (maximum response of 99.6%) and durability (50 times cycling, 500 times folding, 20 times friction, stability over 3 months). The sensor also showed significantly higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to commercial hygrometers and nappy discoloration strips, indicating its great potential for humidity detection and early warning in body-worn microenvironments.

Room Temperature Humidity Tolerant Xylene Sensor Using a Sn-SnO2 Nanocomposite

Mohit Verma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the synthesis of metallic tin-doped Sn-SnO2 nanocomposite with high affinity towards xylene. The sensor shows a linear response to xylene in the 1-100 ppm range with a high sensitivity of 255% at 60 ppm. It is hardly affected by humidity variations and provides an effective solution for sensing indoor pollutants under humid conditions.

Guar Gum/Ethyl Cellulose-Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone Composite-Based Quartz Crystal Microbalance Humidity Sensor for Human Respiration Monitoring

Weiyu Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor was fabricated using guar gum (GG) and electro-spun ethyl cellulose-polyvinyl pyrrolidone (EC-PVP) nanofibers as humidity-sensitive materials. The GG/EC-PVP-coated QCM sensor exhibited high sensitivity, low hysteresis, excellent selectivity, good repeatability, and stability in a wide range of relative humidity. The sensor's hydrophilic groups and porous structure contributed to its enhanced humidity sensitivity. The GG/EC-PVP sensor could capture and measure typical breathing patterns in different human emotions, and could also be used for lie detection.

A rule for operation temperature selection of a conductometric VOC gas sensor based on ZnO nanotetrapods

Fang Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different temperatures on the selectivity and response of a ZnO nanotetrapod-based sensor to four common volatile organic compounds. Results showed that the optimal detection temperatures for formaldehyde and acetone are different, with selectivity shifting at 260 degrees C. Temperature selection for maximizing response magnitude and selectivity to formaldehyde differs, indicating a need for a compromise between selectivity and response magnitude based on the molecular structure of the target gas.

Ultrasensitive Sensors Based on PdO@SrFe2O4 Nanosphere-Modified Fibers for Real-Time Monitoring of Ethanol Gas

Mahmood ul Haq et al.

Summary: Spinel ferrites modified by PdO nanospheres exhibit high selectivity and sensitivity as ethanol sensors, showing fast response/recovery speed, low detection limit, and stable long-term performance. The superior sensing performance is attributed to the loading of PdO nanospheres into SrFe2O4 fibers, which promote faster gas transmission kinetics and enhance catalytic spots generation.
