Transition of bubble motion from spiralling to zigzagging: A wake-controlled mechanism with a transverse magnetic field

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the motion trajectory of an air bubble under the influence of a transverse magnetic field, revealing that spiralling motion transforms into purely zigzagging motion when a magnetic field is applied. The mechanism behind this transformation is analyzed by studying the wake vortices and forces experienced by the bubble in the presence of the magnetic field. Calculations of lift and drag forces acting on the bubble demonstrate how these forces contribute to vortex shedding patterns.

Dynamic mode decomposition of magnetohydrodynamic bubble chain flow in a rectangular vessel

M. Klevs et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the first application of dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) to bubble flow with resolved dynamic liquid/gas boundaries. By examining the velocity field mode statistics over trajectory time and total flow time, as well as computed mode velocity fields, the study shows how gas flow rate and applied magnetic field affect bubble wake flow and larger-scale flow structures within the liquid metal vessel. The results suggest that DMD can provide unique insights into various momentum transfer and bubble interaction mechanisms, and that mode analysis can be used to explain observed flow patterns, showcasing an implementation of DMD with resilience to data noise, memory efficiency, and special pre-processing for input data.

Determination of Parameters of Gas Phase Moving in Liquid Metal-Gas Flow in Magnetic Field of Permanent Magnets by Ultrasonic Pulse Echo Method

A. Andruszkiewicz

Summary: The article discusses the measurements and calculations of selected gas phase parameters in a liquid metal-gas flow in a magnetic field, focusing on argon bubbles in a GaInSn eutectic. Flow velocities, equivalent diameter, and drag coefficient values of the gas bubbles were calculated for different argon inlet nozzles. The boundaries between individual bubble rise and chain flow were also identified using the ultrasonic pulse echo method.
