Assessing the resilience of circularity in water management: a modeling framework to redesign and stress-test regional systems under uncertainty

Dimitrios Bouziotas et al.

Summary: Contrary to conventional management, circular economy design principles offer a resource management alternative that reduces waste and promotes efficiency. This study quantitatively demonstrates the links between circularity and resilience in water management, showing that circular water options lead to more resilient water systems. By addressing different circular dimensions, the resilience profiles of water systems become more robust across various water cycle domains.

Aggregation of carboxyl-modified polystyrene nanoplastics in water with aluminum chloride: Structural characterization and theoretical calculation

Yanyan Gong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal effectiveness and mechanisms of carboxyl-modified polystyrene nanoplastics using aluminum chloride as a coagulant. The results showed that a simple coagulation and sedimentation process efficiently removed a high percentage of PS-COOH from water, providing new insights for the treatment of nanoplastics pollution. This research highlights the importance of exploring effective removal technologies for mitigating the toxic effects of nanoplastics in aquatic systems.

Water Effects on Colloidal Semiconductor Nanocrystals: Correlation of Photophysics and Photochemistry

Zhuang Hu et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the responses of high-quality CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals to water and/or oxygen in an ambient environment. It was found that water molecules efficiently accumulated at the nanocrystal-ligand interface could photoreduce the nanocrystals, leading to various photophysical and photochemical phenomena. This research offers a unified basis for studying fundamental properties and designing processing techniques in industry.

Effect of dye structure on color removal efficiency by coagulation

Felix Mcyotto et al.

Summary: The study showed that the dye structures significantly affect the color removal efficiency by coagulation, and the best dye-coagulant combinations for dyes with the same structures and functional groups can enhance the removal efficiency. It was also found that dyes with the same auxochromes and charge exhibit similar color removal efficiency when treated with the same coagulant.
