Molecular techniques for the taxonomy of Aedes Meigen, 1818 (Culicidae: Aedini): A review of studies from 2010 to 2021

Iracy Maiany Nunes Soares et al.

Summary: This study reviews the taxonomic proposals and molecular methods available for identifying the genus Aedes from 2010 to 2021. The current keys for morphological identification are not sufficient to differentiate certain species. Various molecular techniques, such as Multiplex PCR and DNA barcoding, have been used to identify Aedes species. However, catalogued data is limited to medically important taxa. The integrative taxonomy approach may improve species delimitation.

MITOCHONDRIAL COX-1 BARCODING FOR THE IDENTIFICATION AND PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF Sarcophaga (Liosarcophaga) dux RECORDED FROM JEDDAH CITY OF SAUDI ARABIA

Abdullah Al Ghamdi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify and analyze the phylogenetic relationships of sarcophagid flies in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia using the mitochondrial COX-1 gene. Samples of flesh flies were collected from different locations in the Jeddah region and identified as Sarcophaga dux based on morphology and genetic analysis. The phylogenetic analysis revealed a significant match with S. dux sequences from other countries, indicating the presence of this species in the Western regions of Saudi Arabia. This study provides important insights into the genetic diversity and evolutionary processes of S. dux in Saudi Arabia.
