Morphological and Photophysical Tempering in Spinel MgAl2O4 Synthesized by a Novel Citrate Route Via a Suitable Annealing Scheme

Rachna Ahlawat et al.

Summary: Spinel MgAl2O4 nanopowder was synthesized using a citrate sol-gel process followed by annealing at different temperatures. The best annealed temperature was confirmed to be 1073 K based on thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses. X-ray diffraction was used to examine crystallinity and phase purity, while Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and electron microscopy (SEM-TEM) identified functional groups and morphology. The optical absorption data indicated tunable band gap values (E-g) from 5.12 to 1.8 eV through annealing. The emission spectra showed thermal dependency at different excitations, with violet-blue emissions at 225 nm excitation and green-orange transitions at 325 nm excitation, as well as specific color coordinates in CIE chromaticity graphs. The annealed MgAl2O4 spinel had a higher decay constant due to an increase in radiative centers, and the overall emissions were attributed to band-to-band excitonic, shallow traps, deep states, and induced antisites transitions.

Investigation of structural, morphological, thermal, and thermoelectric properties of Zn1-xCuxAl2O4 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1)

S. Radha et al.

Summary: The structural, optical, morphological, and thermoelectric properties of Zn1-x Cu x Al2O4 (0.0 <= x <= 0.1) samples were investigated. It was found that the energy band gap of ZnAl2O4 decreased and the carrier concentration and mobility increased with the increasing content of Cu. The Zn0.9Cu0.1Al2O4 sample exhibited the highest power factor and zT value.
