Preparation of mucoadhesive methacrylated chitosan nanoparticles for delivery of ciprofloxacin

Renas Rzgar Jalal et al.

Summary: Mucoadhesive nanoparticles based on methacrylated chitosan (MeCHI) were designed and compared with unmodified chitosan nanoparticles for the delivery of ciprofloxacin. The MeCHI nanoparticles showed smaller particle size, lower polydispersity index, higher encapsulation efficiency, and sustained drug release compared to their chitosan counterpart. The mucoadhesion study also demonstrated that the ciprofloxacin-loaded MeCHI nanoparticles had better retention on the mucosal surface.

Electrospinning of ampicillin trihydrate loaded electrospun PLA nanofibers I: effect of polymer concentration and PCL addition on its morphology, drug delivery and mechanical properties

Tugba Eren Boncu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to produce ampicillin trihydrate loaded electrospun PLA and PLA/PCL nanofibers using HFIP as the solvent. The research investigated the effects of PLA concentration and PCL addition on the properties of the nanofibers. It was found that the increase in PLA concentration led to a larger nanofiber diameter and decreased mechanical properties, while PCL nanofibers only showed a rapid burst effect of drug release.

Red blood cell-hitchhiking mediated pulmonary delivery of ivermectin: Effects of nanoparticle properties

Jinpeng Zheng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that red blood cell hitchhiking strategy can effectively enhance the delivery of ivermectin to the lungs, improve its accumulation in lung tissue, and alleviate the progression of acute lung injury. The effects are dependent on the properties of nanoparticles, with cationic nanoparticles showing better results. Red blood cell hitchhiking provides an alternative strategy to improve the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of ivermectin.

Characterization and antimicrobial evaluation of green synthesized silver nanoparticle thin films with reusable applications

Nashath Kalangadan et al.

Summary: Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using medicinal plants has attracted much interest due to their high antimicrobial activity. In this study, AgNPs were successfully synthesized using methanolic leaf extract of Senna alata plant and a thin-film nanocomposite was prepared. The nanocomposite showed antimicrobial activity against different bacteria and fungi.

pH-Responsive Chitosan/Alginate Polyelectrolyte Complexes on Electrospun PLGA Nanofibers for Controlled Drug Release

Jean Schoeller et al.

Summary: Surface functionalization of electrospun nanofibers allows for the introduction of additional functionalities while retaining high porosity and surface-to-volume ratio. In this study, chitosan and alginate were sequentially deposited on PLGA nanofibers to form a polyelectrolyte complex for controlled release of ibuprofen. Chitosan with a positive surface charge regulated the interactions between the drug and the coating, resulting in slower release at acidic pH compared to neutral pH.

Enhanced In Vitro Wound Healing Using PVA/B-PEI Nanofiber Mats: A Promising Wound Therapeutic Agent against ESKAPE and Opportunistic Pathogens

Aarcha Shanmugha Mary et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the use of B-PEI nanofibers can effectively inhibit the growth and biofilm formation of various pathogens, promote cell migration and wound healing processes, and have long-term effects. In addition, B-PEI NFs also exhibit high biocompatibility and wound healing activity.
