Removal of tartrazine, ponceau 4R and patent blue V hazardous food dyes from aqueous solutions with ZnAl-LDH/PVA nanocomposite

Ofeliya O. Balayeva et al.

Summary: ZnAl-LDH/PVA nanocomposite was successfully synthesized and exhibited high effectiveness in adsorption and photocatalytic experiments. The study investigated the effects of pH condition, tartrazine concentration, and temperature on adsorption and photocatalysis performance. The adsorption time of tartrazine reached 40 minutes under optimal pH. The cyclic reusability of the adsorbent was achieved by photodegradation of adsorbed dye compounds. The photodegradable nanocomposite showed higher efficiency in subsequent adsorption processes, potentially due to the layered structure of the nanoparticles and anion exchange intercalation of high molecular weight dye compounds.

Nanomaterials as a cutting edge in the removal of toxic contaminants from water

Amad Ashraf Ansari et al.

Summary: In recent decades, the development of industries and agricultural techniques has led to significant water contamination, causing great concerns for the health and safety of living beings. The contamination includes heavy metals, dyes, inorganic, organic, and bio-contaminants found in surface, ground, and seawater. To address this issue, scientists are focusing on the development of modern and sustainable techniques, such as the use of nano-materials, which have promising features for the removal of pollutants in wastewater. This review summarizes the studies on different nanomaterials, their synthesis processes, applications, and effects of modification and functionalization on key properties for water treatment.
