ESTIMATION OF PEER EFFECTS IN ENDOGENOUS SOCIAL NETWORKS: CONTROL FUNCTION APPROACH

Ida Johnsson et al.

Summary: This paper proposes two methods to estimate the linear-in-means model of peer effects, controlling for the endogeneity of social connections using a control function approach. The authors leave the functional form of the control function unspecified and establish asymptotics of the semiparametric estimator.

Nash Equilibria on (Un)Stable Networks

Anton Badev

Summary: The model suggests that in social networks, the response of the friendship network to changes in tobacco price amplifies the intended effect of price changes on smoking among adolescents, racial desegregation of high schools can decrease the overall smoking prevalence, and peer effect complementarities are substantially stronger between smokers compared to between nonsmokers.
