NOX based comparative analysis of a CI engine fueled with water in diesel emulsion

Fatih Okumus et al.

Summary: The use of water-diesel-emulsified fuel (WDEF) is an effective method for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions without engine modification. Experimental results show that using emulsified fuel slightly reduces brake power but effectively reduces NOx emissions. Through theoretical study, 10% emulsified fuel has been determined as the optimum fuel blend.

Environmental Assessment of a Diesel Engine Fueled with Various Biodiesel Blends: Polynomial Regression and Grey Wolf Optimization

Ali Alahmer et al.

Summary: The environmental effects of biodiesel blends made of different vegetable oils on diesel engine emissions and noise were assessed through a series of tests. A prediction framework and a regression model optimized by the grey wolf optimization algorithm were developed to determine the optimal engine speed and fuel type for reducing emissions and maximizing engine performance. The experimental and optimization results showed that biodiesel blends generally had lower emissions of unburned hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide compared to diesel fuel, but higher nitrogen oxide emissions. The noise level produced by biodiesel, especially palm biodiesel, was lower than that of pure diesel. The proposed PR-GWO model exhibited remarkable predictive reliability and could be used to predict and maximize engine performance while minimizing exhaust and noise emissions.

Modeling and optimization of stability aspects for water diesel emulsified fuel using response surface methodology

Deepti Khatri et al.

Summary: Water diesel emulsified fuel is considered a promising alternative fuel in the context of energy crisis and environmental degradation. Optimization of the emulsification process improves the stability of the fuel, with optimized water concentration, surfactant concentration, and duration of ultrasonication found to be 4.486% vol., 1.237% vol., and 30.0 min, respectively. Performance and combustion features showed marginal differences between emulsified fuel and neat diesel, but emissions of NOX, smoke, CO, and HC were significantly reduced in emulsified fuel.

Performance and emission of a diesel engine using different water/waste fish oil (WFO) biodiesel/diesel emulsion fuels: Optimization of fuel formulation via response surface methodology (RSM)

Ali Khanjani et al.

Summary: In this study, waste fish oil was utilized to produce biodiesel and emulsion fuels, which were then tested in a diesel engine to evaluate performance and emissions. Through multi-objective optimization, the best emulsion fuel formulation was identified, resulting in simultaneous reduction of CO, unburnt hydrocarbon, and nitrogen oxide emissions compared to neat diesel fuel.

Effect of Ca-based additives on the capture of SO2 during combustion of pulverized lignite

Wojciech Zacharczuk et al.

Summary: The study found that adding calcium to lignite during combustion effectively suppressed the emission of SO2, with sulfur capture efficiency increasing with temperature. In addition, some inherent inorganic species in lignite, especially calcium, were also found to reduce SO2 pollution during combustion.
