Towards a theory of hadron resonances

Maxim Mai et al.

Summary: In this review, the current understanding of the excited strongly interacting particle spectrum is presented. The systematic and model-independent calculation methods, namely lattice QCD and effective field theories, are discussed. The synergies between these approaches can provide a deeper understanding of the hadron spectrum. The use of the Breit-Wigner parametrization is shown to be inconsistent with chiral symmetry and should be avoided in strongly coupled channels.

Cross-Channel Constraints on Resonant Antikaon-Nucleon Scattering

Jun-Xu Lu et al.

Summary: Chiral perturbation theory and its unitarized versions have been instrumental in our understanding of low-energy strong interaction. In this study, the first global analysis of meson-baryon scattering up to one-loop order is presented. The results demonstrate that covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory, including unitarization for the negative strangeness sector, can accurately describe meson-baryon scattering data. This validates the validity of this important low-energy effective field theory of QCD.

Radiative decay of the resonant K* and the ?K? K? amplitude from lattice QCD

Archana Radhakrishnan et al.

Summary: The first calculation in lattice QCD of the gamma K -K7r process with the narrow K* vector resonance is presented. The transition amplitude at 128 points in the (Q2 , EK7r) plane is determined using a lattice with a pion mass of 284 MeV, and suitable resonant scattering descriptions are found. The need to consider S-wave K7r elastic scattering when converting finite-volume matrix elements computed in lattice QCD to infinite-volume matrix elements, even in the case of primarily interested in the P-wave amplitude, is demonstrated. By analytically continuing parametrizations of the gamma K -K7r amplitude to the K* resonance pole, the K*+ -K+gamma transition form factor is obtained and compared to the Q2 = 0 value extracted from experimental partial decay width.

Reaction πN → ωN in a dynamical coupled-channel approach

Yu-Fei Wang et al.

Summary: A refined investigation on light flavor meson-baryon scatterings was conducted using a dynamical coupled-channel approach. The study extended the channel space and extracted the spectra of N* and Delta resonances, as well as questioning the existence of bound states of the omega meson in nuclear matter through the extraction of a negative value of the omega N elastic spin-averaged scattering length.

Summary: The Julich-Bonn dynamical coupled-channel approach is extended to include K Sigma photoproduction off the proton. Differential cross section and (double) polarization data for K+Sigma(0) and K- Sigma(+) are analyzed simultaneously with data from other production states. The spectrum of N* and Delta resonances is extracted based on the fit results.

Summary: In this study, the electroproduction data of pion and eta particles are jointly analyzed for the first time up to a center-of-mass energy of 1.6 GeV. The results provide insights into the determination of resonance amplitudes in the near-threshold region. It is found that some amplitudes can be well determined while others require data over a wider energy range.

New graphical criterion for the selection of complete sets of polarization observables and its application to single-meson photoproduction as well as electroproduction

Y. Wunderlich

Summary: This paper combines Moravcsik's theorem with Nakayama's derivation of phase ambiguities to propose a new graphical procedure for deriving complete sets of observables for amplitude-extraction problems. Applications to pseudoscalar meson photoproduction and electroproduction have shown minimal length sets of observables for N = 4 and N = 6 amplitudes, respectively. The procedure is outlined for extending to processes with N > 6 amplitudes, demonstrated with the example of two-meson photoproduction.

Resonant contributions to inclusive nucleon structure functions from exclusive meson electroproduction data

A. N. Hiller Blin et al.

Summary: Nucleon resonance contributions to the inclusive proton F-2 and F-L structure functions are calculated using resonance electroexcitation amplitudes extracted from experimental data. Contributions from isospin-1/2 and -3/2 resonances remain significant in the range of photon virtuality Q(2) less than or similar to 4 GeV2, showing pronounced differences in their Q(2) evolution in different resonance regions. Comparison between structure functions in the resonance region and those calculated from parton distributions provides new quantitative assessments of quark-hadron duality in inclusive electron-proton scattering.
