Mapping QTL for Phenological and Grain-Related Traits in a Mapping Population Derived from High-Zinc-Biofortified Wheat

Summary: Genomic regions controlling days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, thousand-kernel weight, and test weight in wheat were investigated using a RIL population derived from a cross between two wheat varieties. Thirty-seven novel QTLs, including stable and co-localized QTLs, were identified and were found to be associated with important candidate genes involved in various aspects of wheat growth and development. These QTLs have the potential to be used in marker-assisted selection for wheat breeding.

Exploring genomic regions involved in bread wheat resistance to leaf rust at seedling/adult stages by using GWAS analysis

Summary: This study aimed to identify leaf rust resistance-related genomic loci in Iranian wheat cultivars and landraces through GWAS. Evaluation of 320 wheat accessions against four prevalent rust pathotypes revealed diversity in their responses. GWAS analysis identified 80 leaf rust resistance QTLs located on almost all chromosomes, with six novel loci conferring resistance. The GBLUP genomic prediction model showed superior performance, suggesting its potential for genomic selection in wheat.

Molecular characterization and validation of adult-plant stripe rust resistance gene Yr86 in Chinese wheat cultivar Zhongmai 895

Summary: The adult-plant stripe rust resistance gene, Yr86, in Chinese wheat cultivar Zhongmai 895 was mapped to the physical interval 710.2-713.2 Mb on chromosome 2A. This gene provides stable resistance to stripe rust at the adult-plant stage and has the potential to be a new gene for this type of resistance. Multiple KASP markers associated with Yr86 were developed and can be used for marker-assisted selection and further studies on this resistance gene.

Mapping and characterization of the recessive leaf rust resistance gene Lr83 on wheat chromosome arm 1DS

Summary: In this study, the leaf rust resistance gene LrX in Thatcher wheat derivative 78-1 was mapped to the distal region of chromosome arm 1DS through hybridization and genotyping. It was found to be closely linked with Lr21, Lr42, and Lr60. Cytological examination of RL6149 showed no evidence of chromosome segment transfer from A- or B-genome to chromosome 1D.

Genome-Wide Association Study for Grain Protein, Thousand Kernel Weight, and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index in Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Summary: In this study, genomic regions controlling grain protein content (GPC), 1000 kernel weight (TKW), and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were investigated in 280 bread wheat genotypes. A total of 26 marker-trait associations (MTAs) were identified on 18 chromosomes across the A, B, and D subgenomes. The GPC exhibited the highest number of MTAs (16), followed by NDVI (6), and TKW (4). In silico analysis indicated that the SNPs were located on important candidate genes involved in various biological processes. The newly identified MTAs will be further validated in different genetic backgrounds for marker-assisted breeding.

Quantitative trait loci mapping reveals the complexity of adult plant resistance to leaf rust in spring wheat 'Copio'

Genome-wide association study for grain yield and component traits in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Mapping quantitative trait loci associated with stripe rust resistance from the Canadian wheat cultivar 'AAC Innova'

Summary: Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis Westend. f.sp. tritici Erikss. (Pst), is a devastating disease of wheat. In this study, a doubled haploid population was evaluated to dissect the genetics of resistance in the cultivar 'AAC Innova'. A high-density genetic map identified one major and 10 minor effect loci, with 'AAC Innova' contributing resistance alleles for most of the loci. These findings are valuable for diversifying sources of genetic resistance against current and new virulent races of Pst.

Evaluation of Wheat Germplasm for Resistance to Leaf Rust (Puccinia triticina) and Identification of the Sources of Lr Resistance Genes Using Molecular Markers
