Effects of Different Levels of Surgical Separation on Neck Bulge and Swallowing Disorders during Endoscopic Thyroidectomy

Jinlong Huo et al.

Summary: The study compared the effects of different levels of access on postoperative neck bulge and swallowing disorder in endoscopic thyroidectomy. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent surgery between March 2021 and September 2021. The results showed that patients in the superficial deep cervical fascial level group had a lower occurrence of neck bulge and swallowing disorders compared to those in the superficial cervical fascial level group. Further research with a larger sample size is needed to validate these findings.

Yuquan Yuan et al.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic thyroidectomy by complete areola approach (ETCA) compared with conventional open thyroidectomy (COT) in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). The results showed that ETCA had lower surgical bleeding and better cosmetic appearance compared with COT, while the length of operation and postoperative drainage in ETCA was less favorable compared with COT. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of postoperative hospitalization stay, number of removed lymph nodes, and surgical complications.

Effect of a Polyglycolic Acid Mesh Sheet (Neoveil™) in Thyroid Cancer Surgery: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

Seong Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type of thyroid cancer. Surgery for this type of cancer is associated with increased drainage and chyle leakage. A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the polyglycolic acid mesh sheet Neoveil in reducing postoperative drainage. The use of Neoveil significantly decreased drainage on the second postoperative day. Although triglyceride levels were lower in the Neoveil group, the difference was not statistically significant. The study suggests that Neoveil can be used to reduce postoperative drainage in papillary thyroid cancer surgery.
