Bi-objective coordinated production and transportation scheduling problem with sustainability: formulation and solution approaches

Ece Yagmur et al.

Summary: This paper studies a new variant of integrated production scheduling and vehicle routing problem. The paper considers the production of customer orders in a job-shop environment and the deliveries made by a fleet of heterogeneous vehicles. The objective is to minimize both the CO2 emissions by vehicles and the maximum tardiness resulting from late deliveries. The paper formulates the problem as a bi-objective mixed-integer programming and proposes solutions using Augmented epsilon-Constraint (Augmecon) method, Pareto Local Search (PLS), and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The experimental results show the performance of each method for small, medium, and large-sized instances.

Sustainable vehicle routing of agro-food grains in the e-commerce industry

Dhirendra Prajapati et al.

Summary: Due to rapid industrialization and increasing global food demand, the concept of sustainable supply chain in the agro-food sector has become critically important. This paper introduces an integrated problem of first-mile pickup and last-mile delivery logistics, where agro-food grains are available at multiple locations and are demanded by e-retailers, supermarkets, grocery shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. Additionally, this study proposes a sustainable framework for agro-food grains supply chain in urban and rural areas for e-commerce in developing countries.

Summary: The adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015 marked India's commitment to reduce its GDP emission intensity by 33-35% by 2030. The transport sector, a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, needs to be evaluated in relation to the NDC. By using FAHP, definitive solutions can be provided to climate change policymakers and logistics managers.

Refrigerated Transport: State of the Art, Technical Issues, Innovations and Challenges for Sustainability

Angelo Maiorino et al.

Summary: The cold chain is responsible for preserving perishable products by maintaining proper temperatures to slow biological decay processes. However, the efficiency of the cold chain can be less than ideal, leading to increased food waste and energy consumption. Refrigerated transport is a critical phase in the cold chain, impacting energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, prompting a growing interest in optimizing systems to reduce environmental impact.
