High-Temperature Conversion of Olefins to Liquid Hydrocarbons on ?-Al2O3

Matthew A. Conrad et al.

Summary: This study found that at temperatures between 250-450 degrees and pressures between 1-40 bar, olefins can react on gamma-alumina to form higher molecular weight products. The reaction rate of propylene is ten times higher than that of ethylene. However, the products obtained are not a simple oligomerization distribution of olefins. The conversion rate of ethylene on alumina is more than 100 times higher than that of noncatalytic thermal conversion.

Catalytic process development strategies for conversion of propane to liquid hydrocarbons

Che-Wei Chang et al.

Summary: The temperature effect on propane dehydroaromatization pathways was investigated. Different temperature conditions lead to different selectivity towards the desired products. At high temperature, propene and BTX were the major products, while at mid temperature, gasoline-blending hydrocarbons were selectively produced. At low temperature, butanes were the main product.

Highly Active and Selective Sites for Propane Dehydrogenation in Zeolite Ga-BEA

Lingli Ni et al.

Summary: A highly selective Ga-modified zeolite BEA has been successfully synthesized for propane dehydrogenation. The propane dehydrogenation rate is determined by different factors under different conditions. The active sites are identified as dehydrated and tetrahedrally coordinated Ga3+, and the selectivity towards aromatics is low.

Propane Dehydrogenation on Ga2O3-Based Catalysts: Contrasting Performance with Coordination Environment and Acidity of Surface Sites

Pedro Castro-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The study investigated the coordination environment and acidity of surface sites in different Ga2O3 catalysts for propane dehydrogenation, with spectroscopic data suggesting that weak Lewis acid surface sites in beta-Ga2O3 contribute to its superior catalytic activity compared to alpha-Ga2O3 and gamma-Ga2O3.

Ethane Dehydrogenation on Single and Dual Centers of Ga-modified γ-Al2O3

Sai Praneet Batchu et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations and microkinetic analysis were used to investigate the efficacy of Ga-modified gamma-Al2O3 (110) surfaces for the catalytic dehydrogenation of ethane and the synergy between Ga and Al sites. It was found that doped Ga sites exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity compared to grafted Ga sites, and an increase in surface water interfered with the synergy between Al and Ga sites.

Olefin oligomerization by main group Ga3+ and Zn2+ single site catalysts on SiO2

Nicole J. LiBretto et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that silica-supported, single-site catalysts containing immobilized main group Zn2+ and Ga3+ ion sites can catalyze the oligomerization of ethylene and propylene to produce linear olefins, with rates similar to Ni2+ and higher molecular weight olefins for Ga3+. The oligomerization was suggested to occur via metal hydride and metal alkyl intermediates formed during olefin insertion and beta-hydride elimination elementary steps, with initiation proposed to occur through heterolytic C-H dissociation of ethylene at around 250 degrees C. This study illuminates new chemistry for main group metal catalysts with potential for developing new oligomerization processes.

Propane dehydrogenation: catalyst development, new chemistry, and emerging technologies

Sai Chen et al.

Summary: The review discusses recent advances in understanding the PDH process, including emerging technologies, catalyst development, and new chemistry for regulating catalyst structures and inhibiting catalyst deactivation. Analysis and discussion on active sites, reaction pathways, and deactivation mechanisms of PDH over metals and metal oxides, as well as their dependent factors, are provided to enable efficient catalyst design for minimizing reaction barriers and controlling selectivity towards propylene. Challenges and perspectives of PDH over heterogeneous catalysts are also proposed for further development.
