Exploring the dynamics of situated expectancy-value theory: A panel network analysis

Patrick N. Beymer et al.

Summary: Students' competence beliefs and task values are important factors predicting their academic choices and achievements, and these beliefs can vary across different situations. This study used network analysis to examine the relationships among motivational constructs between individuals, within the same situation, and over a semester. The results showed differences in the relationships among motivational constructs in these three networks, suggesting the presence of cross-lagged effects over time. Therefore, interventions for supporting STEM students should focus on both positive and negative motivational constructs.

The effect of 5E-based STEM education on academic achievement, scientific creativity, and views on the nature of science

Seyide Eroglu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of 5E-based STEM learning strategies on 9th-grade students' academic achievement, scientific creativity, and views about the nature of science in the atomic system and periodic table course. Through a quasi-experimental design, it is found that the experimental group, which used the 5E-based strategies, outperformed the control group in terms of academic achievement, scientific creativity, and views on the nature of science. This suggests that a learning strategy based on the changing nature of science and creativity can enhance students' learning outcomes.
