Numerical study of heat transfer and flow structure over channel surfaces featuring miniature V rib-dimples with various configurations

Shuangye Ran et al.

Summary: The numerical study on miniature V rib-dimple hybrid structures for enhancing heat transfer in gas turbine blade internal cooling channels revealed that increasing rib height and dimple depth initially leads to significant heat transfer enhancement before reaching a stable state. The hybrid structures exhibited superior heat transfer performance compared to rib-only and dimple-only structures, with optimal parameters identified for maximum heat transfer augmentation. The interaction between vortex flow induced by V ribs and downstream dimpled walls enhances momentum and heat transport, contributing to improved and more uniform heat transfer on the channel surface.

Effects of a high Reynolds number and rotation on the leading-edge heat transfer of a ribb e d cooling channel with a cross-section consisting of a semicircle and a rectangle

Dawei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the heat transfer performance in a combined-shaped cooling channel with angled ribs. The results showed that the rotating channel had a maximum Nu/Nu(0) ratio of 6.4, which was 1.79 times higher than that of the non-rotating channel. The interaction between ribs and rotation had an impact on the Nu/Nus ratio at different measurement points.

Fluid flow and heat transfer in a rectangular ribbed channel with a hierarchical design for turbine blade internal cooling

Shao-Fei Zheng et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hierarchical design concept to optimize the arrangement of rib turbulators for internal cooling of turbine blades, aiming to reduce pressure loss while maintaining heat transfer performance. Numerical simulations verify the feasibility of the proposed design and demonstrate that the optimized configuration greatly reduces pressure loss with a slight deterioration in heat transfer. The comparison of overall thermal performance shows significant improvement, indicating the potential of the hierarchical design concept in developing high-performance internal cooling of turbine blades.

Coupled heat transfer analysis of internal and film cooling of turbine blade under medium temperature conditions

W. Jin et al.

Summary: There is a lack of research on the coupled heat transfer characteristics of turbine blade cooling. This study numerically investigates the coupled heat transfer in a turbine blade by considering both internal and film cooling. The results show that the heat conduction through the dividing wall enhances the cooling effect, and adjusting the blowing ratio improves the blade cooling performance.

Combined experimental and numerical investigations on heat transfer augmentation in truncated ribbed channels designed by adopting fractal theory

Guohua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally tests and numerically investigates the heat transfer enhancement and flow characteristics of truncated ribs designed using fractal theory in a rectangular channel with an aspect ratio of 1:4. The research reveals two methods to improve the heat transfer performance of truncated ribs, based on the study of ribs with different cross sections, arrangements, and cut-off angles. Results indicate that the overall thermal performance can be improved by up to 38.21% with respect to a certain factor, and up to 12.16% with respect to another factor, showcasing the benefits of using fractal-designed truncated ribs.

Summary: This study focuses on using perforated 90 degrees ribs to enhance thermal performance in a rectangular cooling channel with an aspect ratio of 4:1. The results show that perforated ribs can significantly improve heat transfer efficiency with reduced pressure drop, but they may disturb flow reattachment regions leading to slightly decreased local heat transfer in those areas.

Summary: A new turbine blade rib configuration called the truncated-root rib was designed in this study to reduce the disadvantages of the traditional squared-rib and improve heat transfer performance. Numerical results showed that the heat transfer performance of the truncated-root rib configuration was greater than that of the squared-rib, with an increase in Nusselt number by 8.56% and a 39.24% higher thermal performance compared to the original rib shape.
