Metal-Organic Frameworks for Greenhouse Gas Applications

Anrui Dong et al.

Summary: Using petrol or burning coal generates GHG emissions, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been extensively used in GHG-related applications. Porous MOF materials and their derivatives have shown great potential for GHG separation, storage, and conversion due to their easy preparation, large porosity, adjustable nanostructure, abundant topology, and tunable physicochemical property. Progress has been made in GHG storage and separation based on the interaction between guest molecules and MOF frameworks. The review highlights existing challenges and future directions for the rational design, synthesis, and utilization of MOFs and their derivatives for practical applications.

Large Cages of Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks

Haoze Wang et al.

Summary: The design and synthesis of permanently porous materials with extended cage structures is a challenging task in chemistry. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), which are framework materials built from interconnected tetrahedral nodes through imidazolate linkers, play a unique role in meeting this challenge. The structures of ZIFs consist of large zeolite-like cages that are covalently connected with neighboring cages and fused in three-dimensional space. These fused cages provide exceptional architectural and chemical stability, allowing the passage of gases and molecules through the cages and facilitating chemical reactions within the cages. The combination of cage chemistry and extended structures in ZIFs results in interconnected yet compartmentalized void spaces, making them highly useful for catalysis, gas storage, and gas separation applications.

Design and syntheses of functionalized copper-based MOFs and its adsorption behavior for Pb(II)

Jingping Zhong et al.

Summary: A novel copper-based MOFs adsorbent (Cu-BTC-Th) was prepared by introducing a new organic ligand of 4-thioureidobenzoic acid (Th) to enhance the selective adsorption of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption capacity of Cu-BTC-Th for Pb(II) was significantly enhanced, reaching a maximum of 732.86 mg/g under optimal conditions. The adsorption mechanism was discussed, involving ion exchange with Cu(II) and coordination of functional groups in Cu-BTC-Th with Pb(II) ions.

Design and syntheses of hybrid zeolitic imidazolate frameworks

Yupeng Han et al.

Summary: Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) have been developed to mimic the structural characteristics of zeolites, with high surface area and adjustable pore size being their main features. The emerging hybrid zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (HZIFs) combine the advantages of zeolites and ZIFs, such as high stability and porosity. HZIFs find wide applications in electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and ion storage, contributing to the progress in material chemistry, coordination chemistry, and structural chemistry.

A Tandem Electrocatalysis of Sulfur Reduction by Bimetal 2D MOFs

Ruijin Meng et al.

Summary: The study reveals that using catalysts synthesized with 2D MOF nanosheets with different metal centers can optimize the performance of Li-S batteries, where Ni-MOF effectively catalyzes the reduction of long-chain polysulfides, and Co-MOF benefits the deposition kinetics of Li2S. Furthermore, the bimetal CoNi-MOF exhibits synergistic sulfur electrocatalytic activity, reducing reaction activation energies, enhancing reaction rates, and effectively inhibiting the shuttle effect.
