Tuning the Photocatalytic Performance of Ruthenium(II) Polypyridine Complexes Via Ligand Modification for Visible-Light-Induced Phosphorylation of Tertiary Aliphatic Amines

Zafar Mahmood et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the tuning of the redox potential and excited state properties of a commercially available photocatalyst for the visible-light-mediated photoredox phosphorylation of tertiary aliphatic amines. It also showcases the successful synthesis of alpha-aminophosphinoxides and alpha-aminophosphonates through cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions using Ru-II complexes as photocatalysts.

Electrochemical Properties of Ru Polypyridyl Phosphonates

Hashini N. K. Herath et al.

Summary: Two phosphorus-containing ruthenium complexes were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically and electrochemically. Both complexes exhibited proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) behavior. A Ru(V/IV) couple was detected at 1.4 V vs. NHE for [Ru(bpyPO(3)H(2))(bpy)Cl]Cl. The complexes were tested for their ability to catalyze C-H bond oxidation and it was found that [Ru(bpyPO(3)H(2))(bpy)Cl]Cl can oxidize secondary C-H bonds using NaIO4 as the primary oxidant under aqueous conditions.

Sebastian Amthor et al.

Summary: A series of new Ruthenium(II) complexes based on a novel ligand were synthesized to evaluate the influence of phosphonate substitution on their catalytic performance. The introduction of phosphonate moiety did not alter the photophysical properties of the complexes, but affected their electrochemical features and photostability.

Comprehensive review of photophysical parameters (ε, Φf, τs) of tetraphenylporphyrin (H2TPP) and zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) - Critical benchmark molecules in photochemistry and photosynthesis

Masahiko Taniguchi et al.

Summary: Tetraphenylporphyrin (H2TPP) and zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) are widely used benchmark molecules with rich visible-region spectra and broad structural analogy to chlorophylls, but there is a significant variability in literature values for key photophysical parameters. A comprehensive review of 871 publications from 1940 to September 2020 found that the choice of values for parameters such as molar absorption coefficient, fluorescence quantum yield, and singlet excited-state lifetime can have far-reaching consequences in photochemistry applications. Different instrumentation and sources of error contribute to the wide range of reported values for these parameters.
