Heat Sink Enhancement of Decalin by Symmetrical Imidazolium Ionic Liquid-Capped Metal Nanoparticles

Ruiqing Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, symmetrical imidazolium ionic liquid-capped metal nanoparticles were successfully synthesized as efficient catalysts for enhancing the heat sink of hydrocarbon fuels through catalytic cracking and dehydrogenation. These catalysts exhibited smaller particle sizes, better dispersion stability, thermal stability, and catalytic activity compared to conventional tetradecylamine ligands. The improved heat sink was attributed to the combined effect of the imidazolium ionic liquids and the catalytic ability of the metal nanoparticles.

An experimental investigation of supersonic combustion of cracked JP-10

Naifu Cui et al.

Summary: A new two-stage hydrocarbon fuel heating and delivery system was used to simulate the fuel state in the cooling channel of the regenerative cooling engine. Experiments were conducted to crack JP-10 fuel at different degrees, and the products were analyzed. The high cracking degree product had a shorter ignition delay time and faster laminar flame speed than the low cracking degree product and JP-10. Supersonic combustion experiments of JP-10 with different cracking degrees and equivalence ratios were also carried out. The experimental data will be valuable for validating the simulation of supersonic combustion.

Effects of aluminum powder additives on deflagration and detonation performance of JP-10/DEE mixed fuel under weak and strong ignition conditions

Qi Jing et al.

Summary: In this study, the deflagration and detonation properties of multiphase mixed fuels obtained by adding different morphologies and particle sizes of aluminum powder to the JP-10/DEE mixed fuel were investigated. Under weak ignition conditions, adding aluminum powder significantly increases the average burning rate and flame intensity of the multiphase mixed fuel. However, the addition of aluminum powder also leads to incomplete combustion and the generation of a large amount of soot in the oxygen-depleted state. Under strong ignition conditions, the DDT process of JP-10/DEE/aluminum powder can be divided into four stages, corresponding to four different pressure wave patterns.

High-energy-density gelled fuels with high stability and shear thinning performance

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of low-molecular mass organic gellant (Z) was reported for the preparation of stable gelled fuels. The gellant forms a 3D network structure to fix fuel molecules, resulting in high stability of the gelled fuels. The gelled fuels also exhibit shear thinning behavior, facilitating storage in the gelled state and supply in the liquid state. Additionally, the gelled fuels show comparable combustion performance in terms of heat of combustion and ignition delay time compared to the pristine liquid fuels.

Daolun Liang et al.

Summary: Four samples of nanofluid fuel with different concentrations of aluminum and oleic acid were prepared and their stability and combustion characteristics were investigated. The results showed that the addition of oleic acid improved the stability of the samples and resulted in better ignition and combustion performance. Increasing the solids' concentration also had a positive effect on the performance of the samples, but excessive concentration decreased the overall combustion efficiency.

Deflagration evolution characteristic and chemical reaction kinetic mechanism of JP-10/DEE mixed fuel in a large-scale tube

Qi Jing et al.

Summary: In this study, the deflagration propagation characteristics of JP-10/DEE mixtures were investigated through experiments. It was found that DEE can compensate for the ignition difficulty and incomplete combustion of JP-10, and has a synergistic enhancement effect. The results showed that with the increase of DEE concentration, the propagation speed of the primary flame increased, the induction time of the secondary flame was advanced, and the maximum deflagration intensity occurred at a fuel ratio of 0.6.
