Dual antiplatelet therapy duration after percutaneous coronary intervention in high bleeding risk: a meta-analysis of randomized trials

The use of dual antiplatelet therapy for ischemic cerebrovascular events

Summary: In the past decade, the use of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) has been explored in patients with non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and intracranial atherosclerotic disease. Several clinical trials have shown that the addition of clopidogrel or ticagrelor to aspirin can reduce the risk of stroke recurrence in these patients. DAPT has also been evaluated as a treatment for stroke associated with atherosclerotic intracranial stenosis, showing favorable outcomes compared to other interventions. This article reviews these trials and provides a practical algorithm for clinicians, while highlighting potential limitations and areas of further research.
