Application of factorial model for an optimization of partial replacement of feldspar by talc on the sintering process

Robson Couto da Silva et al.

Summary: This research used a factorial model to evaluate the partial substitution of sodium feldspar by talc ore. The model investigated the influence of talc particle size, proportion, and sintering temperature on physical properties and firing color. The experiment found that higher sintering temperature combined with coarser talc granulometry resulted in higher mechanical strength, while finer granulometry led to overfire process. Talc proved effective as a secondary flux agent for ceramic bodies.

On the thermal breakdown of tremolite: a new method for distinguishing between asbestos and non-asbestos tremolite samples

Andrea Bloise

Summary: This study systematically investigates the thermal behavior of twelve tremolite samples and finds that the breakdown temperature of tremolite is around 200°C. Thermal analysis could be a new method for effectively distinguishing between asbestos and non-asbestos tremolite samples.

Natural occurrence of asbestos in serpentinite quarries from Southern Spain

Andrea Bloise et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on a comprehensive characterization of fibrous minerals in the nevado-filabride complex in southern Spain, where serpentinite and metabasite rocks are extracted and processed, potentially containing asbestos minerals. The analysis was conducted using various techniques such as X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, derivative thermogravimetry, and X-ray synchrotron microtomography. It is crucial to study asbestos minerals from both scientific and legal perspectives to safeguard the health of workers in occupational settings.
