Chitosan nanoparticles have gained significant attention due to their unique surface properties and adsorption ability, and recent research on their synthesis methods, experimental conditions, limitations, and applications in water and wastewater treatment is critically reviewed. The use of magnetic nanoparticles for pollutant recovery and metal recovery is also discussed.

Prediction of methyl orange dye (MO) adsorption using activated carbon with an artificial neural network optimization modeling

Summary: In this study, the removal of methyl orange dye by activated carbon made from date seeds was modeled using an artificial neural network technique. Physicochemical parameters of the adsorbent were assessed through instrumental investigations. The results showed that the dye removal process can be predicted using an ANN technique, and adsorption onto activated carbon may be employed as a main treatment for dye removal from wastewater.

Cellulose-based materials and their adsorptive removal efficiency for dyes: A review

Summary: Dyes are emerging as harmful pollutants, and there is an urgent need for their removal from wastewater. Adsorption technology using cellulose-based materials has been extensively studied and found to be effective in dye removal. This review discusses the preparation and modification of cellulose-based adsorbents, compares their efficiency with other adsorbents, and considers the adsorption conditions. Studies from 2003 to 2022 on cellulose-based adsorption are included, and the properties of different cellulose materials for efficient dye removal are compared. Modified cellulosic materials are highly effective adsorbents for wastewater remediation.

Fly ash and TiO2 modified fly ash as adsorbing materials for effective removal of methylene blue and malachite green from aqueous solutions

Summary: A cost-effective modified composite was prepared from fly ash (FA) and coated with TiO2, resulting in modified fly ash (MFA) with improved crystallinity and surface area. MFA showed higher efficiency in adsorbing dyes MB and MG compared to FA. The maximum adsorption capacity of MB-FA, MB-MFA, MG-FA, and MG-MFA was 78.4%, 95.1%, 78.7%, and 93.7% respectively.

Optimization study of the adsorption of malachite green removal by MgO nano-composite, nano-bentonite and fungal immobilization on active carbon using response surface methodology and kinetic study

Summary: Nano-bentonite, novel hybrid MgO-impregnated clay, and fungal composites were synthesized for the removal of malachite green. MG-impregnated clay showed higher adsorption capacity than nano-bentonite and pure bentonite. Both nano-bentonite and MG-impregnated clay followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Additionally, the adsorbents maintained their structural stability and removal effectiveness even after multiple recycling.

The results showed that Enterobacter cloacae has a high affinity for fast and selective biosorption of uranium ions. Additionally, a composite material of Enterobacter cloacae/carbon nanotube was synthesized and utilized for preconcentration and determination of uranium, demonstrating low detection limit, high precision, and good accuracy.

Fluorescent CdS QDs Modified With Molecular Imprinted Polymer for the Photodegradation of Imidacloprid and Buprofezin Pesticides Under Visible Light

Summary: Molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) are custom-made materials that selectively recognize compounds. They have attracted great research interest in photocatalysis, extraction, and sensing applications due to their low cost, resilience, and high selectivity. In this study, MIPs were synthesized using [6]-gingerol as the template molecule, Itaconic acid as the monomer, EGDMA as the crosslinker, and CdS Quantum Dots (QDs) to develop a MIPs hybrid nanocomposite. The physicochemical properties of the MIPs were investigated using various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The addition of MIPs was found to contribute to the stabilization of occupied states and enhance the photocatalytic properties of the composite. The composite showed high degradation efficiency for imidacloprid and Buprofezin under visible light source.

This study aimed to enhance the adsorption of malachite green using a novel nanocomposite. The results showed that the nanocomposite had a higher adsorption capacity for malachite green compared to Congo red, and it could be effectively used for multiple regeneration cycles without significant loss of removal efficiency.

The metallogels formed by Co(ii), Cu(ii), Zn(ii), and Cd(ii) with itaconic and citraconic acid exhibit fascinating thixotropic features. The metallogel of Cd(ii) with citraconic acid shows effective self-healing property and is highly esteemed. The metallogels also demonstrate potent antimicrobial activity against human pathogens.

The Synthesis of Magnetic Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite for the Removal of Reactive Orange 12 Dye

Summary: Herein, we successfully fabricated a nanocomposite of magnetic calcium ferrite (CaFe2O4) and nitrogen-doped graphene oxide (N-GO) using facile ultrasonication method. This nanocomposite showed great potential for the removal of reactive orange 12 (RO12) dye from aqueous solution. The nanocomposite exhibited desirable magnetic properties and enhanced adsorption capacity compared to other reported materials, making it a promising adsorbent for water treatment.

Ce3+ doped samples were prepared using a microwave combustion technique and characterized using various instrument techniques. The results showed that Ce3+ doping influenced the morphology and magnetic behavior of the samples, and exhibited higher potential in photocatalytic dye degradation and antibacterial applications.

Green synthesis of nanostructured calcium ferrite particles and its application to photocatalytic degradation of Evans blue dye

Summary: In this study, nanostructured calcium ferrite particles were successfully synthesized by solution combustion method and applied to photocatalytic degradation of dye. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various analytical techniques. The results showed that the calcium ferrite particles exhibited excellent adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performance, and the optimal conditions were determined through parameter optimization. The study also demonstrated the multistep mechanism of adsorption and degradation, as well as the photostability of the catalyst.

Preparation and characterization of different zeolites from andesite rock: Product evaluation for efficient dye removal
