Role of atomic layer deposited TiOxNy interlayer in tribological and corrosion properties of CrN coating

Summary: The growth defects in sputtered CrN coatings can be improved by depositing TiN and oxidizing it, then coating with CrN to form a sandwich-structured composite coating. The insertion of the TiOxNy interlayer can enhance the preferred orientation and grain refinement of CrN crystals, leading to improved mechanical performance and corrosion resistance.

Summary: In this study, Ti-DLC coatings were obtained on steel substrate using FCVA system by adjusting bias voltage to improve the anti-tribocorrosion property of stainless-steel components in marine environments. The results showed that Ti-DLC coatings at -200 V exhibited the best anti-tribocorrosion performance with high hardness and good corrosion resistance.

Long-term tribocorrosion resistance and failure tolerable of multilayer carbon-based coatings

Summary: Current research on tribocorrosion of metallic materials and their surface protective coatings focuses on short-term properties, which may not reflect the practical long-term service condition. This study investigates the tribocorrosion behavior of three carbon-based multilayer coatings on S32750 stainless steel. The results show that these coatings greatly improve the tribocorrosion resistance of the stainless steel, with TiCx/DLC performing best in short-term tests and Ti-TiCx/DLC performing best in long-term tests.

Summary: Tribocorrosion refers to irreversible material degradation of metallic components in corrosive environments, resulting from the interplay of chemical, mechanical, and electrochemical processes. The study compared the tribocorrosion behavior of AISI 1045 and AISI 2205, showing that the protective passive film of AISI 2205 was damaged by wear, leading to wear-accelerated corrosion, while sliding accelerated corrosion in unworn areas for AISI 1045. Additionally, total material loss increased with applied potential for both materials, with AISI 1045 being more sensitive to corrosion under sliding conditions.
