Highly efficient peroxymonosulfate activation by MOFs-derived oxygen vacancy-rich Co3O4/ZnO p-n heterojunction nanocomposites to degrade pefloxacin

Donglin Liu et al.

Summary: Here, we report the preparation of oxygen vacancy (OV)-rich ZnO and Co3O4 p-n heterojunction nanocomposites, i.e. ZOCO, for the degradation of pefloxacin (PEF) antibiotic. Various characterization outcomes suggest the formation of OV-rich ZnO and Co3O4 p-n heterojunction in the ZOCO-2, which exhibits a higher charge transfer efficiency and degradation rate of PEF compared to single metal oxide alone. The ZOCO-2/PMS system demonstrates excellent stability, low cobalt leaching, resistance to inorganic anions and humic acid, and produces reactive oxygen species during PEF degradation. Additionally, the ZOCO-2/PMS system shows good recyclability and performance for various organic pollutants.
