Pore network simulations of thin porous medium characterization by evapoporometry

Otman Maalal et al.

Summary: Evapoporometry is a technique for determining the pore size distribution of a porous medium through measuring the evaporated mass. This study investigates evapoporometry through numerical simulations on model pore networks, providing a detailed understanding of the underlying physics involved. The simulations demonstrate the importance of accurately determining the evaporation rate, as it affects the characterization of both pore body size and throat size distributions.

Two-equation continuum model of drying appraised by comparison with pore network simulations

Faeez Ahmad et al.

Summary: In this study, a two-equation non-local equilibrium continuum model of isothermal drying is evaluated by comparing it with pore network simulations. The results show that the continuum model can accurately capture the non-local equilibrium effect as well as the phase distributions and drying kinetics.

Insights into evaporation from the surface of capillary porous media gained by discrete pore network simulations

Xiang Lu et al.

Summary: A reliable prediction of drying rate from the surface of a porous medium remains a scientific challenge. One approach to address this challenge is to use a mesoscale pore network model. Evaluating parameter functions from pore network modeling allows for coupling the porous medium with the boundary layer in a continuum model. Introducing emendation factors to link the evaporation rate with surface wetness or saturation provides a simple method for coupling the wet surface region with the gas-side boundary layer.
